What's new !

As you can tell, our site has been updated.

It has a fresh new look and is hopefully,

much easier to navigate. Please visit

the guest book and let me know what

you think.

Coming late summer !

The Outer Banks Lighthouse Society

will be featuring a story of an upcoming

trip I will be taking to Bald Head Island, NC.

Bald Head Island is where

my Great Grandfather, Devaney F. Jennette,

 was first assistant light keeper

from 1919 ~ 1932.

He died of a heart attack while on duty.

So please check back at the end

of summer for a link to the story.

A genealogical research website
From the table

There are a lot of fond family memories centered around the kitchens of my youth. My Mee Maw, as we called  her, was one of the best cooks I have ever known. She raised seven children on her meals created with love. And I don't know which was better, her big ol' hugs or her green beans and onions seasoned with bacon drippings. I Think she could of burnt everything she cooked and it would of still tasted good to me just because she had made it.

Then there is my dear Grandmother Gladys. She was from Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. Being raised on an island, she sure knew how to cook her seafood. Some of my fondest memories come from watching her stand before the stove in her tiny kitchen, frying up oysters and fish.

How I wish I could, just one more time, savor some of the foods from my youth. Guess no one ever can cook as good as a grandmother can. Except for my Mother of course. She definitely fed us children well. Her yummy fried pork chops with home made mashed potatoes and gravy were enough to make your mouth water. People used to call her and ask her to make pineapple upside down cakes for them. She definitely has Mee Maw's knack for being a fine southern cook.

Mother  passed on years of traditions to me. She was raised in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia and once married learned the island cooking of my Father's family. There are a lot more memories I will share as I post old family recipes. Hopefully you will enjoy them as much as we have. If you have any old family recipes you care to share just email them to me and I will be glad to post them.

Enjoy
