There are many different variational spellings of the surname Anderson, and some of those spellings are: ANDERSEN, ANDERSON, ANDERSONNE, ANDERSOUN, ANDERSSON, ANDERSSEN, ANDERTON, ANDIRSOONE, ANDIRSTON, ANDISON, ANDRESOUN, ANDREWSON, ANDROSON, MCANDREWS The purpose of this site is to record and share DNA information on the Anderson surname. DNA analysis is a tool for identifying participants who share a common male ancestor, and aids us in establishing links between Anderson groups who were thought to be unrelated. We also provide an opportunity for males who were born with the Anderson and Andersen surname to participate in a DNA test. Our Project goal is to share information and bind as many Anderson and Andersen (and all known variations of the name Anderson) families together as possible. An exact match in the yDNA 25 marker test indicates a strong probability of a common ancestor within the past 7 generations. It may be possible to determine who that common ancestor was with good family history research and documentation, and by sharing information with members in each group represented in the Project. To be successful in our project goal we ask that each participate submit a genealogy report. The genealogy report will be published on our website; therefore, we will not publish private information of living individuals without express written consent from each member of the Project. Anderson female descendants may participate, and are encouraged to participate, by having a male Anderson relative participate in the Project. Are you still not sure you want to participate in the DNA Study? It is estimated that 97% of DNA is junk DNA. The Y-DNA falls into this category as it does not contain information about your health, eye or hair color, stature, intelligence from the Y-chromosome. Only males have the Y-chromosome and it is passed from father to son, generation after generation. |

The Anderson Family DNA Project began in April 2003 when Herb Anderson ordered the first three kits. Since that time we have grown to 128 kits ordered (as of April 14, 2006). The project is continuing to expand on a regular basis. The project's web site is also continuing to expand, including information about the participants genealogy reports/lineages and each participants matches with other persons in the project. The purpose of the Anderson Family DNA Project is to determine and expand our genealogy research by confirming or disproving relationships through DNA testing. The goal is the share information and bind as many Anderson & Andersen (and all known variations of the name Anderson) families together as possible. The DNA markers tested are 12, 25, 37 and 59 specific markers on the Y-chromosome that passed from father to son. If you are a female interested in the Anderson Family DNA Project please try to enlist the participation of your father, brother, uncle or male cousin who is an Anderson. If you are interested in joining our group please go to the Anderson Surname Project page to register and order your kit. After you have registered and ordered your kit please be prepared to submit a genealogy report starting with your earliest known Anderson ancestor. The DNA results have little relevance without genealogy research and the contribution of your genealogy report/lineage helps others in determining if a relationships exists with your family. The genealogy report does not have to be generated by special software. A simple narrative sent by email to Herb Anderson and Darlene Anderson will do. Or you may use the questionnaire created for the purpose of submitting your genealogy report. If you are new to researching your Anderson genealogy or feel you haven't researched your family back far enough please don't let this persuade you in not having the DNA testing done. You may be one of the participants who match with a group already in existence within the project and this will give you an advantage in researching your family history. In 2006, we decided to increase the awareness of genealogy and family history information about the Anderson and Andersen surname, and variational spellings, by combining the Anderson KY-NC-TN-VA website and the Anderson and Andersen DNA Project website to create the Anderson and Andersen Family DNA Project and the Anderson and Andersen Genealogy Research Project. The Projects have their own web site, as they are different in the scope of information found on each site. The Anderson and Andersen Family DNA Project website is about DNA and the Anderson males who have participated in DNA testing. The Anderson and Andersen Family Genealogy & History Research Project is information about the Anderson surname anywhere, anyplace, anytime. We categorize by state and then by county. |
