S/V IsaLei - Rua
IsaLei - Rua was built in Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada by Marcos Yachts and launched in 1986. She was originally built for Dick Park, a logger, but in late 1985, he was badly injured in a logging accident and had to sell the boat. We purchased her in 1986 virtually unused.
She is 37 ft. (11.3 m) and 11.5 ft (3.5 m) abeam and has a waterline length of 30 ft. (9.14 m). Her draught unloaded is 6 ft. 3 in. (1.95 m.) and 6 ft. 10 in. (2.1 m.) loaded. She weighs 17,000 lbs. (7711 Kg.) unloaded and loaded for cruising, 23,500 lbs. (10433 Kg.) Mast height above the deck is 50 ft. (15.24 m.) and she is rigged heavily with 3/8" and 5/16" stainless steel rigging. The engine is a 42 HP Isuzu diesel coupled to a Borg Warner hydraulic gearbox.
IsaLei - Rua is a fully documented Canadian vessel. The name IsaLei - Rua is a Fijian name. IsaLei, being the Fijian farewell song, and Rua being the number two. Canadian regulations do not allow two documented vessels to have the same name. Since there already was an IsaLei registered, the boat became IsaLei - Rua.
