Please note: This page is still very much under construction. As with other pages on this site I've chosen to upload it regularly while it is being compiled, despite incomplete formatting and information, in order to make as much data as possible available to Borthwick researchers.
Apart from the need to gather data for the Borthwick One Name Study my personal interest in Borthwicks in England arises from searches for events and connections in my own family.
If anyone knows more about these families please get in touch with me. The real purpose of this page, however, is to post for other Borthwick researchers my collection of information about Borthwicks in England. I have a separate page for Borthwicks in Liverpool, Lancashire as William Murray Borthwick's brother John lived there for some years. If you have bits and pieces of information on Borthwicks in England that you'd like to post here for others to use please get in touch with me as I'd be happy to include it. I'd love to hear from anyone who has information about any Borthwicks in England, from anyone who can add anything to the information below, and of course from anyone who is researching these or other Borthwick families. Please email me if you have an interest! Earliest Borthwicks in England 1. 1425. The LDS Vital Records Indices are not complete listings of births and marriages in a particular country but are very useful, and inexpensive, collections of information for any researcher. Contact your nearest LDS Family History Centre or Distribution Centre if you are interested in purchasing the CD. I have extracted from the British Isles CD all Borthwick births and marriages. Some variant spellings are included when a search is made on "Borthwick" so I have also included these in the lists below. Births

Deaths, St Catherine's House Index My reason for searching the Borthwick Deaths in St Cath's Index between 1840 and 1843 is a letter written from Liverpool to Australia in July 1843. In that letter to William Murray Borthwick his brother, John, said that his (ie John's) only son, John Robert Borthwick, had recently died. I still haven't found John Robert Borthwick's death I sorry to say but here are the Borthwick deaths I found in case they help someone else.
Cemetery information is included of course in the National Death Index but for clarity and convenience I've listed the entries in that index in a separate section, above. St Mary's Kirkyard: List of Surnames. A list of monumental inscriptions in St Mary's Kirkyard (Yarrow parish) was published in the 1964 volume of the Hawick Archaeological Society's transactions. In case it might be of use to researchers, a list of the surnames appearing on the gravestones in this list is included here. Researchers are advised to consult the 1964 article for full details of the gravestone inscriptions. This may be available, for example, via Inter-Library Loan.
