Former site of Josiah and Gertrude Morrison's home
Former site of the homestead
belonging to Josiah and Gertrude Morrison
of Callaway, Custer, Nebraska (in the late 1800s - early 1900s)

The way it looks today (August 14, 2001)
The home is now gone, but was situated in the open grassy area in the foreground of this photo

To get to this area, from Grand street turn east on Pacific Street and drive 2.7 miles straight east.
Then turn north on the dirt road (  -| intersection). Continue for about 1/8 mile.
This area is on the left (west) side of the dirt road.

The homestead used to cover 200 acres.  Josiah's son Charles took over the ranch and used to live in the home that is now there.  Josiah's son Percy lived in the home on the corner of the main road where this dirt road turns off.  Josiah's daughter Helen lived in town but her husband had asthma bad, so they moved to Colorado for a time, before going on to California.  Josiah's eldest son, Herbert Leon "Lee", also moved to California.  The original home and sheds from Josiah's ranch are all gone now, but were once located in the open area in the foreground of this photo.
