Dear Brother, and Sister, Nephews and Nieces:

I hope you will pardon me for my very long silence but I thought I had better wait a little for I saw a change about to take place.

Our Poor Dear Old Mother breathed her last about 2 past 10 o'clock on Friday morning October 2nd, 1874.  This is the date.  She was sensible to the last moment of life. She thanked the Lord her time was come to go to rest fro her labour with Dear Father.  She wished many times to be laid in his grave, for she was a great sufferer, for about 5 years and a half and quite blind 12 years to this same month.  So you may judge her life was a great burden especially since the death of my poor Dear Father.

Only Ruth was with her of her own children.  They did not send to fetch either of us three or we would have gone, but I know she would like to talk to us for she was very anxious about you, although in a foreign country.
She was in great trouble, a letter from you, and about writing to you and saying if she could write herself it would be done in time, and very sorry that Anne is not well and now I can say Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord for they rest from their labour.

Now all the old people are gone, every head of Families.  My Poor Dear Mother was the last, only David and Sara Biddow, they are left being a bit the younger, not much. Ruth and her Husband are going to stay Here. They have one little girl her name is Anne 2 years old last March.  They wish to be kindly remembered to you.

Margaret have no child, never had one, her Husband is rather poorly and in a bad way.  I don't think he can be long.  He bleeds very much though the nose.  He seems to be fast going home.  I think he is prepared for it.  He is much older than Maggie.

Oh, if I could see you.  I have a great deal to tell you, more than I can write to you. My little girl is 13 in November and my little boy 4 next March, and he sings a great deal about America, and asks questions about you.

Charlotte and her Husband & Family sends their kind love to you.  John and the children join me in kind love to you.  If we never meet on earth, I hope to meet in Heaven.

I conclude hoping you are well.  We remain your Affectionate Brother and Sister John and Amelia Walters.
