DODD PAGE

The surname of DODD comes from ancient English families in Shropshire, England. It is a corruption of "Dowd". The Dodds are mentioned as a "common name" in 1740 in Albemarle County, Virginia. (Albemarle County was divided in 1758 creating Buckingham and Appomattox Counties) A Richard Dodd is mentioned in 1750, 1754, and 1760 as being of Albemarle/Buckingham. Some of the Dodds moved to Wake County, North Carolina, and again we find a Richard Dodd and two brothers in the Militia of North Carolina in 1771. William, Thomas, David and JESSE DODD are all in the early records of Wake County, North Carolina. (Colonial Records of N.C.) We favor one of the "Williams" as being the father of Jesse and David.
