ALTMAN/AULTMAN Family Genealogical Research
(by Ron Bauerle)

My great-great-great grandparents, George and Margaret (Peggy) (Conrad) Aultman
Welcome to my ALTMAN/AULTMAN family page. I am descended from Hans Jacob
Altman (1700-1772) and Anna Maria
Eisenmann (1701-1775) of Germany who came
to America in 1749 on the ship
"Phoenix".
They settled in
Northampton Co, PA;
my branches of the family ended up in
Westmoreland Co, PA,
Tuscarawas and
Holmes Co, OH,
married into the Beck family, moved to
Clinton Co, MI, and married
into the Cressman and
Bauerle families.

Contents of this page:
- A list of my Aultman ancestors and their spouses.
A couple of mysteries involve the spouses of g6-grandfather William Altman
(various sources have her name as Scholl/Stahl, but there's no other
info), and g5-grandfather John Altman (a Stark Co, OH history says she was
a Pershing, but there are no known females in the Pershing family that
match her date information :^( Note that g4-grandfather George Aultman
changed the spelling from Altman to Aultman, but probably nobody knows why...
- Famous relatives include
Amelia Earhart and
General John (Black Jack) Pershing;
I'm the former's sixth cousin, three times removed,
and the latter's fourth cousin, three times removed, respectively.
Note that we are not related to director Robert Altman.
- Articles on the Aultman family and mill in Holmes County, OH;
I've condensed them into a partial timeline.
- An article by George's son A.A. Aultman
(my g3-uncle) from the 2/14/1924 "Holmes County Farmer".
- An excerpt from "The Silent Streams" by Harry
Logsdon, 1950?
- Excerpt from "History of Villages - People -
Places in Eastern Holmes County" by Clarence Troyer, 1975. Most of the
second part appeared in a 7/21/74 article by him, presumably from the
"Daily Record", which also had this picture
of the Troyer (formerly Aultman then Beck) Mill, which was torn down
around 1915.
- Another article by Clarence Troyer, from the
12/8/1977 "Daily Record"; it mostly duplicates the first part of the
above 1975 excerpt, but there are a few new tidbits.
- An article by Eileen Aultman Steele from "Holmes
Co, OH to 1985". The part about William landing in Virginia in 1764 isn't
quite right, since he presumably came over in 1749, and probably landed
in Philadelphia. Likewise the part about his grandson Isaac's wife Nancy
Wallick's being a "Scottish lady" probably isn't correct - the evidence
is that the Wallicks were also German.
- This 1999 page
has a nice article on the mill, but when I swung by in 2001, it was gone :^(
I don't know whether it was demolished, or finally fell down - I asked
on the Holmes Co, OH mailing list, but got no replies :^(
- Gravestone pictures:
- My g5-grandparents, John & Elizabeth (?) Altman, Strasburg, OH
- My g4-grandfather, Isaac Altman,
Porter Cem, Lakeville, IN. His wife was Nancy
Wallick.
- My g3-grandparents, George & Margaret (Conrad) Aultman,
Clark, OH. His obituary is here.
- My g2-grandparents, John & Mary Jane (Aultman) Beck,
Eureka Cem, Eureka, MI.
Mary Jane was
very pretty in her younger days.
