Hi, welcome to my web site! I hope that your visit here is helpful in your quest to find your roots. At present, I have no plans to add information to this site.
The centerpiece of this site is an online edition of the book, Bunce Genealogy and History, which was copyrighted and published in 1977 by my father and his sister, along with links to supplemental material discovered since 1977. A little more than 100 copies of the book were published and sold to family members, but copies were also donated to several libraries. Therefore, most of the links, but not all, on the pull-down menu will take you first to the page in the book where information appears for the name you seek, and then you may follow links, if any, from the book to the supplemental information. The pull-down menu has a list of nearly all the surnames, over 130, found in the book, as well as my supplements to it, for which there is a record of two or more generations, but it does not include all the names on this site. Just scroll through the pull-down menu, then click on a surname or topic of interest to you, and the section where the name appears will be displayed from the book or supplements. I also have placed a link to a search engine for this site below the pull-down menu, but I do not know how accurate it is, so I have left the pull-down menu in place. Alternatively, if you want to read the entire book, or sections which have interesting items of early Kansas history, you can access it by clicking on the title of the book above the paragraph describing it. Be sure to also check out the Links below for other items of interest here.
BUNCE GENEALOGY AND HISTORY. In 1977, after many years of research, my father, Leslie R. and his sister, Vida E. BUNCE, compiled and published a 172-page paperback book with information on 1,251 related individuals of our family in Kansas, as well as earlier ancestors, who lived in Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Massachusetts, New York state, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia. This is an online edition of the text of this book along with a few of the photos that were in the original book; however, I have omitted most of the names of living descendants for privacy reasons. There are hyperlinks from the 1977 edition to the online supplements with new information about the family, discovered since 1977. To read the book in its entirety, please click on the book title at the top of this paragraph.
Robert Cole (1598-1652) Biography and Descendancy Chart. Here you will find also a descendancy chart of about 400 individuals (mostly only names and dates) for my mother's Cole line, which extends back to Robert Cole, born about 1598 in England, who came to the Massachusetts Bay Colony with the Winthrop Fleet in 1630, and later he was one of 12 settlers who went with Roger Williams to establish the Providence Plantation in what is now the state of Rhode Island. Additionally, there are a few introductory paragraphs about what is known of Robert Cole himself. For those interested in further research on this line, a list of sources used to compile this information is also available. Brief references to him also appear in the first few chapters of the book, Memoirs of the Wilkinson Family in America, published in 1869.

—Patriotic Sentiment—
THE AMERICAN'S CREED
I believe in the United States of America as a government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a republic; a sovereign nation of many sovereign states; a perfect union, one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice and humility for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes.
I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it, to support its constitution, to obey its laws, to respect its flag, and to defend it against all enemies.
William Tyler Page, clerk of the U.S. House of Representatives, in 1917 |
