"One thing we have discovered is that we are a nation of wanderers.
Our ancestors have wandered the globe, and often left us with
only one clue to trace their heritage, their surname." - Unknown
The primary goals of this site are:
1. To list our "cousins" researching this surname.
2. To link to pages of interest to people researching this surname.
3. To collect information pertaining to this surname, and the bearers
of this surname that might in some way facilitate research of this
surname.
4. To present this information on the web so that it can be freely accessed by any of our cousins at any time, from any place.
"In order for all our cousins to be gathered together,
from wherever they may have wandered,
you need a nest to gather them in." - Unknown
I need your help to do this.
Please Send Me:
The names of your direct ancestors and their spouses. And if you have one, a link to your genealogy web site and / or your online Ashworth family tree.
Attention: I've installed Profile Manager, a free membership script that allows you to:
I'll be linking all e-mail address images to a web form and all researchers' names to your e-mail software. (For the technically minded, I'll be setting up a PHP script that instead of putting your e-mail address in a mailto link, will be doing an HTTP Redirect to a mailto: URI.)
Incidently, I'll also be switching to Viper Guestbook, a free, customizable, PHP, spam-proof guestbook, so you won't have to see any spam messages anymore.

I loved this customizable guestbook. But when it changed hands Lycos ruined it. Now the text in the entries is all bunched up.

The Meaning of the Ashworth surname:
Ashworth means either ''a grove of Ash trees,'' ''a fort made of Ash trees,'' or ''son of Ash.''
The Origin of the Ashworths:
The Ashworths originated in a parish near Middleton, Lancashire County, England.
Well, I wish you success in your research!
Here are four books I know of with information about Ashworth families.
"The Ashworth Family" by Vanda V. Ashworth
''I have a copy of the Ashworth book...The book is helpful in some ways, however, the writer displays some points of view that may or may not be correct or in harmony with other researcher's points of view. Some of the information the writer has compiled is not validated or documented. For the most part, the book has some genealogical value for the more present day generations of Trinity Co. Ashworth families. Vanda V. Ashworth's assessment of the Ashworth ancestry in earlier eras is very vague and without documentation.'' - Dave Ashworth Dave's E-Mail Address Another copy is available at the Kurth Memorial Library in Lufkin, Texas.
"Ashworths of VA & W VA - The Issac Line" by Gay Edens Carrigan
Gay Edens Carrigan has spent years researching and validating the Ashworth line via the Issac line, which includes generations in Virginia and West Virginia. Gay's E-Mail Address
"My Thomas, Hayes, Ashworth Families" by Dolly Nicol
Dolly Nicol (descendant of James Ashworth and Keziah Dial) has published a new book entitled "My Thomas, Hayes, Ashworth Families". It contains over 377 acid-free pages and many pictures, documents, and Bible records. Soft cover with a plastic overlay and "soft spiral" binding. Cost $35.00 (includes postage and handling). To get a copy, send a check to Dolly at 3822 Hansen Drive, Dickinson, TX 77539-6114 or call 281-337-4211. (If this information has changed, please let me know.)
''The Harness Makers'' by Patricia Crowder Yaw
''The Ashworth and Crowder families were united in marriage by Emily Amanda Ashworth, first daughter of Cornelous and Hannah Mooney Ashworth to James Madison Crowder, son of Littleberry and Mary Mills Crowder. The story of their lives from VA to IL in the spring of 1854 is in my book, 'The Harness Makers,' with family tree and pictures of Cornelous, Hannah, Emily Amanda and Mary.'' IMPORTANT!
Please, PLEASE register your e-mail address with one of the following directories or change of address services and then update it every time you get a new e-mail address so others can stay in touch with you.
Please Note:
I've put the following researchers' e-mail addresses in images and in PHP scripts called from web forms, to prevent spammers from harvesting them. Hiding them in Javascript or ASCII isn't foolproof.
I've also added each address to the alt attribute of each image for the benefit of blind researchers. It's written in the phonetic alphabet. Each phonetic word refers to a letter, number or symbol in the address.
Instructions:
Attention: I've installed Profile Manager, a free membership script that allows you to:

Since I put this page online in 1999, this page has been accessed at least 3000 times. But...having lost my third counter, I'm counting from zero yet again. Alas! What a short life online counters have!
Many thanks to the folks at RootsWeb for hosting this web site and for making our online genealogy research much easier and more productive.
