(17) Helen M. Briggs

Born:  03Jan1902 in Middlebury Township, Tioga County, PA

Died:  15Jun1994

Married:  Guy E. Stevens (1902-1968) on 19May1928.

Helen and Guy had two daughters:

Daughter No. 1:  Ruth (Marie) Stevens (b. 1929), married Charles Carleton (b. 1924) in 1947.  Marie and Charles had four children: Christopher (b. 1948), Timothy (b. 1953), Robin (b. 1956), Jill (b. 1964).

Daughter No. 2:  Pauline Stevens (b. 1932), married Verne Bowen (1930-1995) on 04May1952.  Pauline and Verne had three children:  David (b. 1953), Karen (b. 1954), Julie (b. 1961).  Married Shirley Dively (2nd husband).

Helen authored two books of poetry:  "A QUIET REBEL" published in 1973 and "LINES  AND FRAGMENTS" published in 1980.  She was a member and accredited judge of the "American Iris Society" and she introduced many "iris crosses".

Guy Stevens owned and operated "Stevens Garage" where he repaired autos, trucks, and farm machinery.  He was also an electrician.  He wired many houses and barns in the surrounding community.

The following letter was written by Helen and addressed to her grandchildren to pass on some of the experiences
of her early life growing up.
