The village of Keeneyville is located in Middlebury township, Tioga county, Pennsylvania  (two miles from Middlebury Center on route 249N and along Crooked Creek).

Longitude:  W77.375 to W77.250

Latitude:     N41.875 to N41.750

Keeneyville was settled by Elias Keeney (1800-1883) in 1838.  Elias was a blacksmith by trade.  Elias died in 1883 in Kentucky where he moved a few years before his death.  There is a headstone in Middlebury Union Cemetery but he is buried near Covington, Kentucky.

Elias was married to Ann Streeter and they had eight children:
(1)  Roxanna Keeney:  She was married to Dr. ?? Bunell.
(2)  Jesse Keeney:
(3)  Elias Keeney Jr.:
(4)  Israel P. Keeney:  He was a teacher and lawyer.  He died in 1863 in Kentucky.
(5)  Edward Keeney:  Moved to Kentucky.
(6)  Jerusha Keeney:
(7)  Henry Keeney:
(8)  Jane Keeney:  She married Theron Hotelling and they lived at Locey Creek.  The 1875 Middlebury township map shows the name of  T. B. Hoteling on the house later owned by Charles W. Briggs and then by Clifton M. Briggs.  T. B. Hoteling's name was visible on the old barn north of the house in the 1940's..

Elias' parents were:  Jesse Keeney Sr. and Catherine Middaugh
Their children were:
(1)  Sarah Keeney:  Died 18Feb1889.  She married George Daniels.
                               Both were interred in Middlebury Union Cemetery (Keeneyville)
(2)  Thomas Keeney:
(3)  Permilia Keeney:  Married Mr. ?? Hill (son of Capt. Hill)
(4)  Abram S. Keeney:  Settled in Tioga.
(5)  Katie Keeney:
(6)  Mercy Keeney:  Married Mr. ?? Brady.
(7)  Richard Keeney:
(8)  Ruby Keeney:
(9)  Elias Keeney:  (1800-1883) Founder of Keeneyville (see above).
(10)  Jesse M. Keeney:  (b. 1810/20)
(11)  George Daniel Keeney:  (b. 05Dec1825)

In the late 1800s Keeneyville had the following:
--  post office
--  two hotels
--  two stores
--  two blacksmith shops
--  wagon shop
--  steam saw mill
--  shoe shop
--  harness shop
--  meat market
--  school house
--  lodge of the Knights of Honor
--  Odd Fellows' lodge
--  physician's office
--  about thirty dwellings

Church services were held by the Methodist and Baptist societies in the school house.
