0.0 - PREFACE:

0.1 - Eons ago, in order to perpetuate intelligent life, my people embarked on a journey to explore and colonize the vast reaches of the universe. We were divided into many homogeneous groups and set off through vastness of space in our spinning tubes of life sustaining space ships containing all the materials and supplies needed for at least a million people. It is entirely possible that the people of earth are descendants of one of our many ships. There have been times when a few of our people, sometimes criminals, sometimes malcontents, have been condemned or have chosen to live on some inhabitable planet away from our space ship. The example of this is not at all unlike how earth's continent Australia was populated.

0.2 - We came across earth's solar system about 50,000 years ago and have been studying it for some time. Our ship is stationed outside of Pluto's orbit, within the Kuiper Asteroid Belt and the Oort cloud. One could say that because of the vast distance, our evasive maneuvering, and our camouflage, earth's astronomers have not been able to spot us. We are very good at hiding from any other intelligent life forms. Even though we do maintain a communication relay network, we have not actually come into direct physical contact with the other ships that set out from our solar system and Ghoti, our home planet, some millions of years ago. Our artificial planet and its people have evolved to what we are today all on our own. It is certain that each of the other Ghoti space colonies have done the same and likely that few would be genetically the same.

0.3 - Either by chance or by design, it seems that our genetics and that of earth's population is so closely related that with a few bio-gigantic alterations, we can inner-breed. This is done at first by artificial insemination and the offspring by natural means. There are some differences, mostly artificial implanted in the mental process created by our scientists with genetic engineering, to allow this. Those of us, I will call us Ghotians, who are stationed on earth have been genetically altered so that we cannot be distinguished from native earthlings regardless of the tests run. For those of us here on earth, we must return to our ship to be "renewed" every 50 to 100 years or we will suffer the same short life span of Earthlings. We are helping your science correct this, however, as you learn about nanotechnology and genetics. In time, you can expect a useful and productive life span will in access of 2,000 years.

0.4 - The longer life will, of course, cause a gross over population of earth and you, too, will be forced to colonize into space. NASA and the space research being conducted now it just the beginning. Although developing colonies on mars and the moon are steps in the right direction, these are not enough. There simply are not enough resources on either planet to sustain large surface populations. The moon will become just a small outpost requiring constant and expensive re-supply. Both the Moon and Mars, even Earth in time, will be difficult terraform and require constant up-keep to maintain a very small colony for mining and as a stop-off for research vessels and as a launch point for artificial planets-space ships similar ours.

0.5 - Earth depleting its natural resources at an alarming rate, far faster than the Earth can naturally replenish itself. In the long run, you will need artificial planets. As the population continues to grow, resources to sustain life on Earth will become even more critical. "Report no. 1, Space Stations:", describes our space ship in detail. It is a proved design and your ship will need to become much like it. Perhaps it will not as large but similar. The station will need to hold at least one million souls, give or take a few. You will need all the professions for each ship you build, manufacturing, engineering, medical, farming, teachers, scientists, and all the crafts and laborers that are needed here on earth to make a nation function.

Report no. 1, Space Stations:

1.0 - A detailed report of our artificial mobile planet and how it can be adapted to earth's space exploration and station development. We will also discuss the importance of building stations for self-sustaining populations.

2.0 - A detailed report of the problems of transporting useful loads to and from planets, other space stations, and providing security from hostile attack. This is to say that in addition to the huge artificial Planet, we manufacture and maintain a large fleet of smaller space ships. One such ship is capable of entering and leaving an atmosphere as found on inhabitable planets, much like the Space Shuttle use on earth but with a better, less polluting power source. A second type is a Space Tug, used to collect matter such as comets, asteroids, gases, ice (water), and other raw materials that might be useful.

Report no. 3, Why Space, Early History:

3.0 - As with all life forms throughout the universe, life, including intelligent life, evolves at its own rate and in its own way. As near as science and archeology can determine, the solar system formed and Ghoti completed 1,000,000± orbits of it's star before life begin. It took 2,875,000,000± orbits for humanoid life to evolve and develop a written language. The first written history was recorded in the Scrolls of Stromet. The records show that the Sciences began to develop only 4,000± orbits later as our ancestors searched for meaning in existence. It was King Stromet IX of the Isle of Stromet who established both a University and the Library of Knowledge giving a home to the historical, religious, and science documents called the Scrolls of Stromet.

Report no. 4, The Science of Space Colonization:

4.0 - Space is a dangerous place and the science of space travel is an outline report of the many sciences that are required to colonize in space. Much of the technology described here is rapidly becoming available on Earth. Within the next few years, as Earth's space station in orbit now continues to develop, this technology will be incorporated into the station. In addition, much of the new technology, will be made available to those humans who will remain on earth. The technologies will involve improved health, overcoming aging, computer-brain interface technology, lighter and stronger materials, self repairing materials, pollution removal, terraforming, enhanced energy sources, improved food production, and many other assets to normal comfortable living on earth and in space. The key to all of the above is the new to Earth nanotechnology.
