Family Research Compendium
Native
American Research
Thanks to Rhonda Clover for all of these
sites on Native American Records.
The
Pebsworth Clan that the Clovers married into had a Native
American heritage. There are a number of them listed here on this
site. Just enter Clover or Pebsworth in the surname search of the
Dawes Commission List. http://userdb.rootsweb.com/nativeamerican/
Note that you can get
further information if you click the link on the right. This a
gold mine of data for figuring out family lines.
Rhonda
also recommends this site because it has other databases and has
good explanations of the Native American records. http://www.accessgenealogy.com/native/finalroll.php
Also
check
the National Archives
Site at http://www.archives.gov/research/arc/ Click
on the yellow search button and insert the words final
rolls in the key word box. The first item on the list that
will
come up is The Final Rolls of Citizens and Freedmen of the
Five
Civilized Tribes in Indian Territory., dated 03/04/1907. Click on
digital image, and locate page 167. This has a lot of Clovers and
Pebsworths listed.

Index by James W. Parins and Daniel F. Littlefield, Jr.

Cherokee Phoenix
Index:

Clover,

The
following explanation about the Cherokee
Phoenix Index and what has
been indexed is from the above site: Indexed material
consists of
news items from the Cherokee Nation, from elsewhere in the United
States, and from foreign countries. Other local items include
official notices, statements, and proclamations of the Cherokee
national government; obituaries and marriage notices; and editorials
and letters. The index also includes poetry, narratives, and
articles reprinted from other sources. Titles of exchange
publications and other printed works are also included to show the
range of sources from which the editors reprinted materials and to
reflect the kind of readership the Phoenix had outside the Cherokee
Nation

Duncan
(Oklahoma) Banner
The
Choctaw Tribe gave the land [on
which the house stood] to Joe
Cole Clover in 1906.
Duncanite Joel Wilkinson said his father, J. Warlick Wilkinson and his
wife, Genevieve “Trixie” Wilkinson, owned a large
part of
the land along 10th Street and sold off most of it for building sites.
In the late 1930s or early 1940s, the elder Wilkinsons built themselves
a large one-room house with a fireplace and a garage, and then added a
bathroom between the two buildings. Sometime in the early 1950s, they
added two bedrooms, a kitchen with brick cooking grill, and a large
living room with dining area.
The
Dawes
List
Dawes
is
a list of those members of
the Five Civilized Tribes who removed to Indian Territory (Oklahoma)
during the 1800's and were living there during the above dates.
IF
YOUR
ANCESTOR WAS NOT LIVING IN INDIAN TERRITORY DURING 1898-1914 THEY WILL
NOT BE LISTED ON DAWES!!
