WALCKER/WALKER
Jakob Walcker 1842-1924 and wife Magdalena (Hoffman)
Walcker 1844-1914
Came to America aboard the ship "EMS", landing
in New York 5/16/1885
My paternal great grandparents
I have traced this Walcker
family line back to 1744.
If you would like more details, let me know.
I've traced my Walcker family line back into the mid-1700's in
Steinheim, Marbach, Baded-Württemberg, Germany which is slightly
north of Stuttgart, Germany. The family left Germany because the country
had been at war for almost 20 years and had recently made military service
mandatory. They chose to live in Russia, because Russia was offering free
farm land and had no mandatory military service.
After almost 70 years in Russia, Russia changed the rules and started requiring
the German immigrants to join the military to fight against their homeland
of Germany. Finding that unacceptable, they immigrated to America in 1885
and received free farming land through the American Homestead Act.
