HORWOOD, May VincentMay Vincent Horwood: born October 14, 1910 in Twillingate, Newfoundland, died in her 101st year on October 1, 2011 at Montfort Hospital in Ottawa: predeceased by her husband Dr. James Francis and son David William; beloved mother of Robert (Marilyn), Barbara (Andrew Elliot). She will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren Jennifer, David (Jana), Sarah and Jamie and great- grandchildren Alex and Hayley. May graduated from McGill University and when her husband Jim joined Alcan, they moved to Arvida, Quebec to begin their married life. Alcan took them to Mackenzie, British Guiana in the 1940s, then back to Arvida, and on to Beauharnois, Shawinigan, India, Jamaica, and Montreal, finally settling in Ottawa in 1974. Dignified and elegant, May remained fully aware and present to family to the end. Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of May's Life October 14 at 4 p.m. at Signatures Restaurant 453 Laurier Avenue East, Ottawa. FOLLIOTT, Vera B. On Sunday, November 21, 2010 in Ottawa, Ontario, Vera passed away peacefully. Beloved wife of the late W.C. (Bill) Folliott (1986) and mother of her dear daughter Mary LYNN Carruthers (2000) and infant son, Charlie (1952), she was predeceased by her parents, Kenneth and Mary Bradley and her brothers, Harold (1981) and Eric (in infancy), all of St. John's Newfoundland. EDWARDS, N. Harold (1927 - 2010) Passed away peacefully at the Winchester District Memorial Hospital on Monday, November 8, 2010 in his 84th year. He will be greatly missed by his beloved wife Virley (nee Stuart) of Chesterville, his loved daughters Beverley Edwards of Scarborough, Linda Edwards of Ottawa, Dianne Edwards (Jonce Straklevski) of Lanark, and Sheila Edwards of Kanata, and his grandchildren Alexandra Nur of Ottawa, and David Nur of Whitehorse, YT and St. John's, Nfld. LYON, John-David (J-D) April 16, 1933 - July 29, 2010 J-D leaves behind his loving wife of 54 years, Val (Kinley), children, Cecil, Deborah (Keith) and Pamela (Jeff). For those who knew and loved him and despite all his many, many accomplishments, he leaves behind his six grandchildren that were all, each of them, the apples of his eye: Megan (20), Brett (18), Cole (16), Tyler (15), Jordan (13) and Jacob (11). Braemar (the Collie) and Rylee (the Springer Spaniel) will miss Grandpa and his treats - a lot. J-D enjoyed a remarkable life with an extended family that too will miss him. From his brother Robert (Adina) and their children, Garth (Kerry), Derek (Marnie) and Janet (Martin) through the Spences, Joplings, Keedians, Smiths, Kinleys and Stevensons to the many, many friends he and Val shared through their almost 55 years together. There are too, too many to mention but you all know who you are. J-D was many things in his long and eventful life. As a curler he represented Newfoundland in the 1960 Brier as skip and he skipped Manitoba in the 1961 Brier. (15 September 2010)

POWER, Susan (Belleville) Passed away in hospital (awaiting lung transplant) on August 10, 2010 at the age of 48. Susan, a 23 year veteran of the Canadian Air Force is survived by her beloved husband Brian Power (formerly of Grand Falls, Newfoundland) and their two sons Colin and Gregory. (14 August 2010)

WALSH, James Joseph June 10, 1930 - June 18, 2010 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dad, Jim. Jim was predeceased his beloved wife Terry McGuire. COLLINS, Elizabeth Shannon Joutel In Mexico, on May 30, 2010 at the age of 62. Elizabeth Shannon, daughter of the late Jack Shannon and Jean Shannon, Chow sister of the late Mary Ruth Shannon Porcher and Kathleen Shannon. CROWE, Keith Jeffray Keith Crowe, a passionate family man and an advocate for Aboriginals in Canada, died on May 16 after a prolonged illness. He was 83. Keith was born in Yorkshire on January 30, 1927 and emigrated from England to Canada following World War II. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Edna, two of his three daughters, Sheila (Peter) and Kathleen (John), and grand-children; Jennifer and Elizabeth Hicks of Happy Valley, NL and Stephen and Alexandra Ernst of Charlottesville, VA. ANDREWS, John Arthur RCAF & CSE 1937 - 2010 It is with sorrow but eternal hope that we announce the passing of John at home with family and friends, April 17, 2010. John had a career in the armed forces for 37 years, retired CWO, and 10 years with CSE. John lived in the Tillsonburg area for most of his young life. The youngest son of the late Olive and Edwin Andrews. Predeceased by Carl, Gord, Joe, and sister Phyllis. Missing John will be loving wife Joan and devoted sons Dean and Johnny. Also special friends whom he called family are Karine, Patrick, Danielle and Don who supported us in our need. DWYER, Ronald Patrick Passed away after April 7, 2010. Leaving to mourn the mother (Jean Wilson) of the 3 children Bonnie (Fred Miljour), Dianne (Brian Ball) and Donna. Other children Tina and Kevin Desjardins and Ronnie and Gordon Clements. Also 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. HANCOCK, Elizabeth "Betty" (nee Mcfarlane) November 8, 1935 - February 4, 2010 Passed away peacefully after a brief illness. Surrounded by her loving family, she accepted her fate with amazing grace and charm. Left with broken hearts are her beloved husband of 50 years, Edward, her son, Brian (Jo-Anne) and daughter, Linda (Mazen), grandchildren, Lindsay and Blair. Predeceased by father Walter Mcfarlane. WALSH, Bernadette Marie (Bun) Bun passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at the age of 75, surrounded by her children. She is once again with the love of her life, her husband of 51 years, Dr. Michael Walsh who passed away three months ago and is dearly missed. Loving mother to Jo-Anne Polak, and Michael, Susan, Paul and David Walsh. Respected mother-in-law to Don Campbell, Doug Smith, and the late Heidi Walsh. Cherished grandmother to Adam and Kathleen Walsh, Sara and Krista Campbell and Jacob Smith. Bun is survived by her devoted sisters Mabel Parsons (Kevin) of Flatrock, Nfld., Josephine Maher (Charles) of Quincy, Mass., sister-in-law Katherine Penton of New Bedford, Mass., and brother-in-law Dr. Kevin Walsh (Louise) of St, John's, Nfld. Bun is predeceased by her adored parents Aneas and Catherine Penton, sisters Mary Bridget Penton and Grace Mahoney (Fred), and big brother Pierce Penton, who nicknamed her Bun when she was five years old. TOMS, Larry Arthur Larry Arthur Toms, 58, Pensacola, FL, passed away on December 9, 2009 due to an aortic dissection. Born in Gander, NF, he was the son of Arthur W. Toms and Elizabeth Toms (nee March) and spent his early years in La Scie, NF. (19 December 2009)

MARSAW, Amy Elizabeth 1921 - 2009 Died peacefully after a lengthy illness at the Perley Rideau Veteran's Health Centre on Tuesday, December 15, 2009. Amy was born on the North side of Harbour Breton in Fortune Bay Newfoundland. She is predeceased by her parents George and Martha (Stone) Rose. (17 December 2009)

BRAY, Albert (Bert) Passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2009, after a long battle with Parkinson's disease and related illnesses at the age of 71. He is survived by his beloved wife Colette (McCauley), son Sean (Lori King). "Grandpa" will also be missed by grandsons Julien, Miguel and soon-to-be baby Bray. Also survived by his brother Phillip (Doreen and family). Predeceased by brothers Marcel (Theresa and family) and Raymond (and family). STARKES, Sterling Dafoe After a courageous battle with cancer, Sterling passed away, age 60, in Ottawa on October 19th, 2009, with his family at his side. He was son of the late Samuel and Janet (Welcher) Starkes, and grew up in Musgravetown, Newfoundland. Sterling treasured 36 years of marriage with his beloved wife Sharon (Hancock) Starkes. LEVITZ, Lawrence Gerald B. Comm. F.C.A. (Gerry) It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Lawrence Gerald Levitz on Saturday, October 3rd, 2009 at the Ottawa General Hospital. Gerry's legacy will continue through his wife Ingrid (nee Gluzman), daughters Stephanie (Dr. Allan Shefrin), Naomi Ruth and brother Dr. Jamie Levitz (Doreen nee Glassman). He was an adored brother in law, uncle, great uncle, and cousin. His relationship to his father in law Leon Gluzman was unique. GONTARD, Gladys Jane (nee Way) March 10, 1931 - July 3, 2009 It is with great sadness that Jane's family announces her passing. Jane died on July 3, 2009, at the Elisabeth Bruyere Health Centre after a sudden and brief illness. Jane was born in Savage Cove, NL, and spent her youth living in the Straights. She worked as a teacher and a lab technician, then in her 30s met her husband-to-be, Francois, and began her most important job: mother. After her children became adults, she went to Carleton University to complete her Bachelor of Arts that she began decades before in Montreal at Sir George University. She graduated in 1999. Jane's great loves were her family and her garden: thick batches of peonies lit up her front yard every June. Jane is predeceased by her parents, Stephen and Ann Maria Way (White) and deeply missed by her sisters Mary Hunt (Mount Pearl, NL) and Marion Coombs (Plum Point, NL) and their families. She is greatly missed by husband Francois, daughters Denise Gontard Cartwright (Tim), and Lily (Jon), stepchildren Florence Gazzini-Gontard (Pierre), Xavier (Florence) and Agnes, granddaughter Samantha, step-grandchildren Yannick, Melanie, Victoria, Benjamin and Leah and the most recent addition to the family, great-granddaughter Scarlette Rose. O'QUINN, Cpl Kenneth Chad It is with great sadness that the family of Corporal Kenneth Chad O'Quinn announces his death while serving in Afghanistan on March 3rd, 2009. FITZPATRICK Sister Veronica (Sister Mary Lucia) A Grey Sister of the Immaculate Conception, Pembroke ON, died in Shalom Residence on the 6th day of February, 2009 in the 61st year of her Religious Life. Left to mourn are the members of her Religious Community, sisters, Mary Brien and Patricia Murphy (John), brother, James, special nephew, Kevin (Marilyn) McGrath, special nieces, Vera (John) Sheehan, Regina (David) Powell, many other dear nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents, Patrick and Ellen (Ryan), brothers, Tom and Leo, sisters, Annie McGrath and Margaret Fitzpatrick. Sister Lucia was born in Carbonear, Nfld, on April 25th, 1928. HANNAN, P. Claude Peacefully on Monday, 2 February 2009, Claude died at his home in Ottawa. Born in Montreal, 22 March 1924, Claude attended the High School of Quebec, and served during the war with RCAF coastal command in Newfoundland. In 1950, he graduated from McGill with a Bachelor of Commerce. From 1958 to 1989, he worked for Customs and Excise, with foreign postings to London and Chicago. His passion for photography led him to document his family's life and the weddings of his many friends. An avid sportsman, he played golf at the Rivermead Golf Club, often skated to work, cross country skied, and taught Aquafit at the YMCA. Vina was the great grandmother of Yehudah and Nechama. Predeceased by her twin brother Cyril Mifflin. The family wishes to extend its gratitude to all Vina's neighbours for their years of friendship and support particularly Sue, Neil, Kathy and Randy. Father Bill Penny played a special role as a constant purveyor of wisdom and good humour to our dear mother. Vina proudly served her country in the Canadian Women's Army Corp (1943 - 1946). A long time employee of Sears she earned the respect and affection of her coworkers. She took pride in her Maritime heritage and celebrated the achievements of fellow Newfoundlanders. REILLY, John Joseph (1922-2004) A life of dedication to others has come to an end after almost 82 years, with the passing of John Joseph Reilly on Wednesday, June 16 at the Ottawa General Hospital...Born September 16, 1922 in Montreal, John was the only child of John Joseph Reilly and Gertrude Tooker...He also spent time in Newfoundland; installing radars and falling in love with the people and the land. After the War, John remained in the service of his country in the air force for over 30 years and he dedicated himself to the care of his parents. John's care of his ailing father enabled him to meet and fall in love with a nurse named Lena Turpin - a Newfoundlander living in Montreal. A whirlwind romance included dates walking up the stairs of St. Joseph's Oratory on their knees and sleeping through South Pacific. On April 30, 1960, John married Lena and what quickly followed was a succession of five children and a series of moves to Gander, Sydney, Kapuskasing, North Bay and finally to Ottawa in 1978...
