Married a dentist Joseph Shrapnell. He already had sons from a previous marriage. Ruby had no children. She had a large house in Auchenflower in Brisbane and after she died the family were surprised to discover that Ruby was careful not to throw things away. The house was a treasure of historical items some of which were donated to the museum. Most of the historical items I have, including letters and photographs, have come from Ruby's house.
Ruby married Joseph Biddulph Scrope SHRAPNEL, son of Dr Joseph Needham Scrope SHRAPNEL and Esther VOYCE OR VOICE, on 9 Apr 1934 in Chapel to missions to Seamen, (Brisbane?). (Joseph Biddulph Scrope SHRAPNEL died about 1955 in Oakey.)
Marriage Notes:
Shrapnell-Markwell In the Chapel to the Missions to Seamen on April 9 the Rev W Hoog officiated at the marriage of Mr, Joseph B.F.Shrapnell (Son of the late Dr. & Mrs N.S. Shrapnell) and Miss Ruby N. S. Markwell (daughter of the late Mr J.I. Markwell and of Mrs. markwell, Cornwall street, Greenslopes). Miss Olive O'Hare presided at the organ. The bride who was given away by her cousin, Dr Norman Markwell, wore an ivory mariette and angelskin lace gown featuring a cape of lace finished with soft frills of georgette. Her small white straw hat had a cluster of orange blossoms on one side. She carried stephanotis and eucharis lilies. The wedding breakfast was held at the Portland Bridge Lounge, where the decorations were effectively carried out in Autumn tints. As the bride's mother was unable to be present, Mrs M Markwell, (the bride's Aunt) was the hostess, and she recieved the guests wearing a frock of diagionally striped Morocain in navy and maroon tonings, with a white and navy hat.
