Wrightstown, N.J., March 11 - Walter B. Holden, native of Chestnut Ridge, Jefferson County, N.Y., celebrated his 76th birthday Saturday here. Mr. Holden is enjoying good health.

He was born at the Holden homestead on Chestnut ridge on March 9, 1859, youngest of eight sons of the late Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Holden. Since retiring from farming some time ago Mr. and Mrs. Holden have been spending winters here and summers at their home in Sandy Creek, N.Y.

In 1881 Mr. Holden married Miss Eunice Dewitt of Henderson, N.Y. They have three children, Mrs. Garfield Kinnie, Alexandria Bay, N.Y.; Karl Holden, Chestnut Ridge, N.Y., and Clifford C. Holden, New York city artist.

Alexandria Bay, March 9 - Mrs. Genevieve Kinnie entertained at a birthday dinner in honor of her father, Walter B. Holden, who is 77 years old today.

Dinner guests were: Mrs. Walter Holden, Wrightstown, N.J.; Mr. and Mrs. Karl Holden and son, Walter, Chestnut Ridge, and Garfield Kinnie and son, Harold, and daughter Marie, Alexandria Bay.

Mrs. Karl Holden made a birthday cake which was a part of the table decoration. Mr. Holden was the recipient of many gifts.

Sandy Creek, March 8 - Walter B. Holden, native of Chestnut Ridge, Jefferson County, will celebrate his 79th birthday Wednesday at his home here. Mr. Holden is enjoying good health. Mr. Holden has kept a diary since he was 20 years old.

He was born at the Holden homestead on Chestnut ridge on March 9, 1859, youngest of eight sons of Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Holden.

Since retiring from farming some time ago Mr. and Mrs. Holden have been spending part of their winters in New Jersey, and summers at Sandy Creek.

In 1881 Mr. Holden married Miss Eunice Dewitt of Henderson. They have three children, Mrs. Garfield Kinnie, Alexandria Bay; Karl Holden, Chestnut Ridge, and Clifford C. Holden, New York city artist.

Alexandria Bay, March 8 - Walter B. Holden, native of Chestnut Ridge, Jefferson county, will celebrate his 81st birthday Saturday, March 9, here.

Mr. Holden is enjoying good health. He has been in New York city with his son, Clifford, for the past five months and will spend a few weeks with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Garfield Kinnie, at Alexandria Bay before returning to his home in New Jersey.

He was born at the Holden homestead on Chestnut Ridge on March 9, 1859, youngest of eight sons of the late Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Holden. Since retiring from farming some time ago, Mr. Holden spends his summers at his home in Sandy Creek and winters in New Jersey.

In 1888 Mr. Holden married Miss Eunice Dewitt of Henderson who passed away April 17, 1939, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Kinnie, at Alexandria Bay. There are two sons, Karl Holden of Chestnut Ridge, and Clifford C. Holden, artist of New York city.

WALTER B. HOLDEN IS 82 YEARS OLD

Wrightstown, N.J., March 6 - Walter B. Holden, native of Chestnut Ridge, N.Y., will spend his 82nd birthday Sunday with his son, Clifford C. Holden. Mr. Holden is enjoying good health.

He was born at the Holden homestead on Chestnut Ridge, Jefferson county, March 9, 1859, the youngest of eight sons of Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Holden. Since he was 20 years old he has kept a daily diary.

Since retiring from farming, Mr. Holden has been in the habit of spending part of the time at his home in Sandy Creek, N.Y., and at Wrightstown.

In 1881 he married Miss Eunice Dewitt of Henderson, who died April 17, 1939, at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Garfield (Genevieve) Kinnie at Alexandria Bay, N.Y.

He has two sons, Karl Holden, who resided on the Holden homestead, and Clifford C. Holden, Wrightstown.

Retired Town of Hounsfield Farmers Pass Anniversary at New Jersey Winter Home

Sandy Creek, Nov. 29 - Mr. and Mrs. Walter B. Holden, retired farmers of the town of Hounsfield and summer residents here 25 years, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday at their winter home in Wrightstown, N.J. Their son, Clifford C. Holden, a New York city artist, spent the day with them. They plan to hold further celebration of their anniversary at a family gathering after they return here next spring.

Mr. and Mrs. Holden were married Nov. 27, 1888, at Henderson. For 25 years they operated the Holden homestead farm at Chestnut Ridge in the town of Hounsfield, moving here after their retirement. A son, Karl W. Holden, took over the farm after his parents retired.

Mrs. Holden, before her marriage, was Miss Eunice Dewitt. She was born at Henderson Oct. 30, 1860, eldest daughter of William and Eliza Hicks Dewitt. Her mother, now 97, lives with the Holdens’ daughter, Mrs. A. Garfield Kinnie, at Alexandria Bay. She will be 98 next March 12.

Mr. Holden, nearly eight months older than his wife, was born March 9, 1859, at Chestnut Ridge, the youngest of eight sons of Aaron and Orilla Root Holden. He began dairying when he was 20 years old at the homestead farm. Mr. and Mrs. Holden are both in good health.

They have two sons, Karl of Chestnut Ridge and Clifford of New York city; one daughter, Mrs. Kinnie of Alexandria Bay, and three grandchildren, Maria and Harold Kinnie and Walter Holden.

W.B. HOLDEN, AGED 83, DIES

Sandy Creek, Oct. 7 - Walter B. Holden, 83, died at 12:05 this morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Garfield Kinnie, Alexandria Bay, after an illness of about a week caused by heart trouble.

Funeral services will be held from the late Mr. Holden’s home here at 2 Thursday afternoon. Rev. Arthur Joyce of the Methodist church at Sackets Harbor will officiate. Burial will be in Sackets Harbor.

Mr. Holden was born at Chestnut Ridge, Sackets Harbor, March 9, 1858, the son of Aaron and Orilla Holden. In 1888 he married Eunice DeWitt, daughter of William and Eliza DeWitt of Henderson. They moved to this village in 1901 and spent the next 10 years here and in Wrightstown, N.J. Mr. Holden was a gardener and a farmer. He had kept a daily diary for the last 65 years.

Mrs. Holden died April 17, 1939. Surviving Mr. Holden are one daughter, Mrs. Garfield (Genevieve) Kinnie; two sons, Clifford C. Holden of Wrightstown, N.J., and Karl W. Holden of Sackets Harbor; three grandchildren, Harold Kinnie, Alexandria Bay, Mrs. Maria Marria of Alexandria Bay, Walter Karl Holden of Sackets Harbor; and several nieces and nephews.
