Generation  IV.-1 Hatcher- Gordon-Chandler

Isaiah Gardner Hatcher was born to Jonathan and Elizabeth Gardner Hatcher, their second child, June 13, 1837 in Rehoboth, Perry Co. OH.  This part of Perry Co.that includes Rehoboth was part of Muskingum Co. until  April 7,1837. Some records show his birthplace as Muskingum Co.  It is interesting to note that Rehoboth Town Site which was recorded on April 7,1837, was laid out by George and John Gardner brothers of Elizabeth Gardner Hatcher.

Isaiah followed his father Jonathan in his choise of a career . In 1856 he is listed in the Zanesville City Guide as "cabinet maker."

May 17 1860, Isaiah and Elizabeth Gordon, daughter of Samuel and Dorothy Gordon, were married in the M.E. Church in Somerset by Rev.L.F. Drake, M.G. The marriage license indicates that the Reverend himself, applied for it and signed the marriage certificate as well.       .

Shortly after they married, Isaiah and Elizabeth lived in Perry Co. with Jonathan and Elizabeth, along with Isaiah's brothers and sister,William, Jesse F., Edmund and Mary.

When the Civil War broke out he enlisted October 8,1861 at New Lexington,Perry Co.OH for a term of three years .  He signed up with the 62nd Regiment ,Ohio Volunteers Infantry.  November 9,1861 he was appointed Seargent Company C.  March 29,1862  he was promoted to Commisary Seargent and transfrerred to non commisioned staff as Master Seargent.  May 1,1862 he was promoted to 1st Lieutenant.   June 1,1863-on duty as General Office Clerk.  Served  with the 3rd Brigade Kantz Division and Ponds Brigade, among others.

After the war  he resigned his commision and was honorably discharged on July18,1864 by Special Orders from Headquarters-Virginia and North Carolina at Bermuda Hundreds, Virginia.

April 2, 1866 their first and only child , Fred Gordon Hatcher was born.  Elizabeth had been in poor health for about five years.  She died a month after Fred was born on May 8, 1866, rheumatic fever and heart disease. were
thought to be  the cause of death  Isaiah lived for a year in Bremen and two more in New Lexington. Then
moved to Zanesville in1866.                                                                       .

J. Hatcher & Sons  established and opened the Zanesville coffin factory, the first  in Zanesville in 1869.  That same year Isaiah remarried..

December 28,1869 Isaiah and Neira Hammond Chandler were married by the Reverend E.H.Heagler in Zanesville. Neira, the daughter of Zachariah Morris Chandler and Catherine Rees, was born in Putnam, Springfield twp, Muskingum Co.,OH in 1841.
 

April 1874 the family moved to Cleveland ,Ohio. where Isaiah again was engaged in the coffin business  as the superintendant of the Cleveland Burial Case Company.  He remained on the board of directors of the Zanesville Coffin Co.

1886 Neira and Isaiah moved to Oakpark ,a suburb of Chicago.Illinois.four years later they moved to1757 Sheridan Road, Evanston also a suburb of Chicago.

Isaiah made Declaration for Pension  for his military service on May 9, 1904 at age 67 while living at 490 S. Kenmore Avenue, Chicago . The following year the pension was increased to $8.00 a month by "reason of partial inability to earn support by manual labor and due to increased age". At the time of his death in 1924 his pension amounted  to $50 a month.

Neira Chandler Hatcher  died  April 30, 1922 in Chicago.  Isaiah Gardner Hatcher died November 11, 1924.
