Arnolds relatives traveled to Texas in 1844, arriving aboard the Herschel,
another of the first three ships to arrive with Verein colonists.. These
were Anton Riedel, born circa 1795 in Stephanshausen, and his wife,
Barbara Franziska nee Hombach, corn circa 1803. Aboard the same ship was
Nicolaus Riedel, born circa 1811 in Stephanshausen who died June 28, 1845;
his wife Magda nee Hombach, born 1811 in Hellgarten, Nassau, and died June
28, 1845; and their two children, probably the Phillip and Jacob Riedel,
born 1836 and 1839, who were making their home with Anton Riedels at the
time of the 1860 Census enumeration.

18. Maria Magdalene (or Helene) RIEDEL was born on 16 Dec 1826 in Hallgarten, Amt Eltville, Nassau. She died on 29 Mar 1897 in New Braunfels, Comal Co., Texas. Maria Magdalene was born in Hallgarten, and her birth record does not show
her father. It is assumed that she was born out of wedlock. Later that
sme year, though, her mother marries Anton Riedel, and he declares that he
is the father. Therefore, it is assumed that Maria Magdalene was the
biological child of both Anton Riedel and Francisca Hombach. This person
is probably the one listed as "Helene Riedel" in the Geue book as
emigrating aboard the "Washington" in 1845 from Kiedrich, a neighboring
town to Hallgarten and Stephanshausen. Merged General Note: @NI0196@

She was married to Carl Friedrich (aka Heinrich) HEITKAMP (son of Johann Friedrich HEITKAMP and Clara HOMANN) on 8 Jan 1847 in New Braunfels, Comal Co., Texas.
