"We the undersigned appointed a Committee to burn cotton in the
neighborhood of Lake Washington, Washington County, Mississippi by Col.
Jas. L. Autry, Commander of the Military Post of Vicksburgh do certify
that Bass & Murphy burned by our order one hundred and seventy five
bales of cotton averaging 400 lbs. per bale given under our hands this
18th day of May 1862.
