Murphy, 12 Oct 2001] Minutes of March Court 1808 ----- Ordered that Demetrius Young constable of the Grand Jury be allowed forty shillings for his attendance at this Term- and that the Collector pay the same the allowed ----- A Deed from James Murry Excr&c. to Abram. McLamore was proved by the oath of Lewis Webb, & on M.O.R.- ----- A Deed from Hardy Hunt to John Mills was provd by the oath of Lewis Webb & on M.O.R. ----- Ordered that Claiborn Cook be appointed Guardn. to James Bowers, a lunatic, son of Phil Bowers decd. who entered into Bond in the sum of five hundred pounds with Thomas Yarbrough & David Bowers his Securities- ----- No 43 State vs. Negroe Dick} Charge for Burlary & House breakfast} Jury Sworn & charged. Same as in no 35- who find the Defendant not Guilty Of the Burglary as Charg'd in the first Count but find him Guilty of the Larceny as Charg'd in the second Count of the Bill- The Court adjudge that the Defendant receive thirty nine lashes, will Said on, upon his bare back that he branded with a red hot iron on the right cheek with the letter R &on the left Cheek with the letter T and that the Sherriff carry his Judgement into execution on Saturday next between the Hours of twelve & two oclock and that the said dick stand committed till all costs are paid- ----- Ordered that James Milner be allowed Two Hundred & Seventy five pounds for rebuilding &c the Goal of this County & that the Collector pay the same and be allowed in his Settlement of the County Tax.
