Thomas Jefferson Esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, to all whom these Presents shall come Greetings Know ye that in consideration of the ancient Composition of five shillings sterling paid by James Murphey into the Treasury of the Commonwealth there is Granted by the said Commonwealth unto the said James Murphey ASsignee of Peter Copeland a certain Tract or Parcel of Land containing Fifty one Acres by Survey bearing Date the ninth day of February on thousand seven hundred and sixty nine Lying and being in the County of Pittsylvania on the draughts of Daniels Mill Creek and bounded as followeth, to wit, Beginning at Pointers in his old line thence the same west on hundred Poles to Pointers North a new Line Two hundred and forty Poles to Pointers in Bucknels Line thence his line 565 South forty nine degrees East Eighteen poles to a black Gum South sixteen degrees east fifty Poles to a red Oak South tow and a half Degrees west one hundred and seventeen poles to a poplar on a branch and South seventy degrees East fifty two Poles to a white Oak and thence South thirty one and a half degrees East fifty three Poles to the beginning with its Appurtenances, to the said James Murphey and his heirs forever.
