[Rejected Revolutionary War Land Claim of Gabriel Murphy, 1835] [transcribed by Mark A. Murphy, 27 Jan 2003] The Memorial of Gabriel Murfrey to the Executives of Virginia your Memorialist to be presented to the Excecutive of Virginia that he recides in the county of Nelson and State of Kentucky that he is listed in the year 1778 in the county of Hampshire Va, as the company of dragoons commanded by Captain Andrew Wallace of Colonel George Baylors dragoon regiment Virginia continental line for three years or during the war, that he served upwards of three years and to the end of the war, and was honourably discharged on the 4 day of January 1782, from the same corps under the command then of Lieut-6th William Washington at Camden South Carolina, your Memorialists therefore respectfully requests the Executive of Virginia to direct the Register of the Land office of Virginia to iSsue to him or his attorney Idor[?] P. DuVal a warrant for the bounty land due him as a sergeant for the cause[?], or to the end of the war, in the the Virginia continental line. Gabriel his CX mark Murphy County of Nelson State of Kentucky} Personally appeared before me Gabriel Murphy the memorialis whose name is signed to the annexed memorial to the Executive of Virginia, and made oath that the facts therein stated are true. Tho Liutheana[?] J.P.N.L. State of Kentucky County of Nelson} I Nathaniel Wickliffe[?] clerk of the county court of Nelson certify that Thomas Linthenum[?] was a Justice of the county court aforesaid at the time of taking the censured[?] affidavit of Gabriel Murphy, and is now an acting Justice of the peace in and for the county aforesaid, duly commiSsioned and qualified according to Law, and that the signature of the said Thomas Linthecum[?] Justice of the Peace, is his genuine signature.- In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the seal of the county court of Nelson this 9th day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty four, and in the 43d year of the Commonwealth.- Nathl. Wickliffe[?] Clk State of Kentucky County of Nelson} I Robert Hagan Presiding Justice of the county court of Nelson in the state aforesaid do hereby certify that the Attestation of Nathaniel Wickliffe Clerk of the county- court of Nelson, and hereunto annexed is in due term[?] of Law, and by the proper officer appointed by the Laws of the said state for that purpose, and that full faith and credit are due thereto in every count or office in the United States. Howell a Justice of the Peace in the county and State aforesaid, do hereby certify that David Wilson is a credible witness, and that he personally appeared before me, in my county aforesaid, and made oath that he is well acquainted with Gabriel Murphy, that the said Murphy enlisted for three years and served the same period in the Virginia continental line during the revolutionary war, that the said Murphy served two years as a sergeant one of the three years, and until the time of his discharge. That he the said David Wilson was a corporal in the same company at the same time with the said Murphy and that he is now in the receipt of a pension from the United States for his services, and that the said Murphy executed the annexed pwoer of attorney to John P DuVal [page cut off signature of D.S.
