Farmer/Maxwell family Notes (begun 11/2/00) Subject: Re: FARMER Date: Thu, 02 Nov 2000 12:53:59 -0600 From: eva@cvtv.net (LaDoris Weber) To: Mark Murphy Is Myra in Navarro County? I could be related to Farmers in Myra, as I am related to most of the Farmers [from close to shirt-tail relatives] and I can't pretend to know the majority of them. My Farmers started in Virginia, then to Tennessee [where my great- grandfather Burdine Farmer was born in 1821; brother Isaac Farmer about 1824; brother Alexander Patton Farmer was born in 1829.] They were all born near Hillsboro in that part of Franklin Co. which became Coffee Co. TN. They were in Texas by 1845/46, perhaps earlier. Burdine Farmer service in the Mexican War, where he mustered in at San Augustine, Tx and saw service in 1846 as a Sgt. in Monterey, Mexico. Burdine Farmer, his brothers and most of his Deen Stepbrothers, together with his mother, Marilla P. and his stepfather, John Deen, settled near Starrville, Smith County, Texas between 1849-1850. BURDINE FARMER: Burdine Farmer married Luvenia Speer 30 July 1850 in Smith County. They were the parents of six children: James Alexander Farmer - John Edward Farmer - Isaac M. Farmer - Alfred Franklin Farmer [my grandfather] - Mary Emma Farmer and Martha Ann Farmer. Luvenia [Speer] Farmer died 1866 in Smith Co. Tx. and shortly thereafter Burdine moved his young family to Navarro County. The first land record I find for him in Navarro was in Dresden. Burdine raised his family alone until his widowed mother, Marilla, joined him. He didn't remarry until Dec 2, 1880, when he married Sarah Jane [Germany] Howard, in Purdon, Navarro Co. Sarah was the widow of John B. Howard. Several of her Howard daughters married Farmer sons of both Burdine and his brother Alex P. Farmer. Burdine's Children married in Navarro Co. as follows: James Alexander married 1882 Theodocia Howard; John Edward m. 1876 T.C. "Callie" Howard; Isaac M. married 1871 Robert Ann Crawford; Alfred Franklin married [1] Nannie Isabel Collins and after her death he married [2] Martha Jane [Ketchum] Hand, widow of Moses Hand. [Martha Jane was my grandmother]; Marry Emma + 1876 George Tadlock; Martha Ann married 1877 John W. Patterson. ISAAC FARMER: Married before 1845 in TN to Sarah D. and had: John B. H. b. 1845 TN. + Mary Ann Yarbrough in Smith Tx; William H.; James Wesley b. Smith Tx., + 1873 Navarro Tx to Rillie Ann Stroud. ALEXANDER PATTON FARMER: Married 1850 Smith Co Tx. Nancy Speer, sister to Burdine's wife. 7 sons born Smith/died Navarro, and they were: William Burdine + Carrie M. Dempsey; John Franklin + Mary A. Collin; Thomas Lafayette [spouse unknown]; James Monroe + Olive Eva Hosier; Columbus Perry [spouse unknown]; Isaac Denton + Molly P. Howard [stepdau to Burdine]; Doctor Henderson + Ida Sarah Howard [stepdau to Burdine Farmer.] Almost all descendants of the above were raised and stayed in the vicinity of Navarro for at least 2/3? generations. I have added the spouse names in hopes this might help you connect. You can readily see that the FARMER families you seek in Myra could be connected. There was another large FARMER family in Smith County from 1850's on. I believe they came to Texas from Georgia. There were two early FARMER families living in Dresden, Navarro Co. at about the same time as my Farmers - perhaps earlier [1840s - 1850's ...] One of these was Rev. Peter E. Farmer, who was about the same age as Burdine Farmer and was also from Franklin/Coffee to Tn. There was also a Rev. Isaac Farmer. I feel sure these Farmers are related to mine, but haven't found documentation to prove this theory. I do have some info on this Rev. Peter, if you feel he might be connected to your FARMER families. HOKAY ... I have given you enough information to hopefully find a connection. I do have descendants to the present day on most of my FARMERS. I have ancestors of the Rev. Peter of Dresden, if you would like that. Who are your Farmers? I am sure you aren't interested in all this, and I do apologize for the length but tried to include all pertinent information. If you find anything of interest, I shall be happy to send more info. [if I have it.] Thanks for asking. LaDoris in Schulenburg, Texas PS...my hubby is rushing me to go into town [we are rural] so I haven't proofread the above. ;^(( At 07:58 AM 11/2/00 -0600, you wrote: >LaDoris, >I saw your post to the Navarro list.
