The best books on the history of Glossop are:

Glossop Dale, Manor and Borough by JScott, JH Smith and D Winterbottom, first published in 1973 and re-issued after being out of print for a number of years. (My copy has no ISBN number)

Another useful site is Graham Hadfield's with Glossop trade directories and other information and a large database of many Glossop families.

Alex Mitchell has an ambitious project underway, an interactive street map with links to names of those who lived on the streets; he is also looking for contributions.

Look ups

Census
The 1841 is transcribed and is mainly on Marjorie Ward's NWDS site, with the Mellor area on my site.
The 1851 is fully indexed by Derbyshire FHS - I have copies of the Glossop, Hayfield, Tideswell, Chapel and Matlock indexes.
The 1891 is also indexed by Derbyshire FHS and I have a copy of this too.

I can look-up references as and when time allows, for these years only, on films at Glossop library. If you would like a print from the library these are 45p each at present, please e-mail me to enquire.

Parish records
These were transcribed a number of years ago by Glossop and District Historical Society and these transcriptions are also held in the library. I am willing to do a look-up in these as time allows.

There are many gaps in the earlier years, late 1600s and early 1700s, and in the baptisms around 1780; all three (bapt., marr. and burials) stop at the end of 1837. The originals are held at Matlock if you need years after this

There are some chapel records, I will add details later.

 
Memorial Inscriptions
There is a transcription of the MIs at the Parish church only. This is indexed by name and held in the library, photocopies at cost.
