Harry MacDonald Obituary, Hamilton Journal, March, 1956

Special to Journal-News. Harry J. MACDONALD, 78, 106 E. Spring St., Oxford, widely known operator of a dry cleaning and laundry business in Oxford, died Thursday (Mar 16 1956) at 10:30 p. m. in Mercy Hospital. He had been in failing health for the last five years, and hospitalized three weeks.
Born in Butler County near Harrison, Ohio, Aug. 25, 1877, he was a son of Donald and Josephine CLEMENTS MacDonald. After farming for several years near Drewsersburg, Ind., he came to Oxford where he established his dry cleaning concern.
Married to Eva WALTZ on Feb. 8, 1899 in Mt. Carmel, Ind., Mr. MacDonald was blessed with a sense of humor and a happy nature. Mr. and Mrs. MacDonald had observed their 57th wedding anniversary the first of this year.
He was a member of the Drewersburg, Ind., Presbyteian Church, and the Oxford IOOF Lodge.
Mr. MacDonald leaves his widow Mrs. Eva MacDonald, Oxford; one son, James MacDonald, professor and director of Teacher Training at Grove City, Pa. College; one sister, Mrs. Blanche INGALLS, Harrison, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2 p. m. in the Marshall-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Claire WARDEN, pastor of the Oxford Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Oxford cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday after 4 p. m.

Funeral services for Harry J. MacDonald, 78, widely known Oxford businessman, were conducted from the marshall-Smith Funeral Home Monday afternoon, with Rev. L. Claire Warden, pastor of the Oxford Methodist Church, officiating. Burial followed in the Oxford Cemetery.
In failing health the past five years and hospitalized for the last three weeks, Mr. MacDonald died of a kidney infection in Mercy Hospital last Thursday night.
Born in Butler County near Harrison, August 25, 1877, he was the son of Donald and Josephine Clements MacDonald. After farming for almost 25 years near Drewersburg, Ind., in Franklin County, he moved to Oxford in 1923.
On February 8, 1899, he and Eva Waltz were united in marriage in Mt. Carmel, Ind., and the couple marked their 57th wedding anniversary early this year.
Of a gentle disposition, with twinkling eyes and a sharp sense of humor, Mr. MacDonald was well-liked by the many customers with whom he came in contact as owner and operator of the MacDonald Laundry and Dry Cleaning business here.
Active in fraternal work, Mr. MacDonald had been a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge for more than 50 years, and was also a member of the Drewersburg, Ind, Presbyterian Church. A staunch supporter of the Cincinnati Reds, he enjoyed following the games of the Cincinnati team, as well as of the local softball league.
He is survived by the widow, Mrs. Eva MacDonald, Oxford; a son, James MacDonald, professor and director of Teacher Training at Grove City College, in Pennsylvania; one sister, Mrs. Blance Ingalls, Harrison, and many other relatives and friends.

John Waltz Notices, unknown source and date

Mr. John WALTZ, formerly a blacksmith at Drewersburg, Ind., but of late years a farmer, living with his son George, two miles from there, was found in the woods Sunday afternoon with his throat cut and very weak from the loss of blood.
About 4 o'clock in the morning he got up, and in his night clothes and bare-footed, committed the rash act and started for the woods, no doubt expecting to die there. His son George finding him gone, and seeing blood on the floor, he tracked his father to where he was lying, and took him back home, where he now is, under the care of Dr. BERTENSHAW, who says he will recover if blood poisoning does not set in. It is said his mind is unbalanced. His son George is the only surviving one of the immediate family.

His wife, Rebecca JOHNSON Waltz, b Sep 2 1826, and daughters, Mary, b Nov 5 1854 and Sarah, b May 27 1856, had died before this article was written, with only son George Waltz, b Jul 20 1852, husband of Senora Anise SIZELOVE WALTZ, still living. George Waltz died in 1914, a year before his father.)

The funeral of John E. Waltz, 55, of Peru, Indiana, was held February 14, 1945 at 4 p m at the graveside in New Haven Cemetery, with Rev. W H SINKS officiating.
Mr. Waltz was a railroader for nearly thirty years. He met accidental death at Muncie, Indiana.
Among the relatives and friends surrounding the grave were--the widow, whose maiden name was Grace Mae ADAMS, the son John L. Waltz, in the Navy Training School at Malbourne, Fla. and a sister, Mrs. Harry MCDONALD of Oxford, Ohio. (NOTE: John E. Waltz was a son of George and Senora Anise (SIZELOVE ) Waltz, b May 14 1889.)

Services for Senora Anice Waltz, wife of the late George E. Waltz and mother of Mrs. Eva Mac Donald of Oxford, Ohio and John E. Waltz of Peru Ind., were held at the Jackman & Penny Funeral Home on Tuesday Oct 13, at 2:30 P. M.
Mrs. Waltz passed away at the home of Mrs. Wm. ASHLEY near Sharptown, Ind. on Saturday Oct. 10, in her 84th yr.
The funeral Services were in charge of Rev. Thos. SMITH of the Methodist Church, with the internment at Mt. Carmel Indiana.
Pallbears were, Harry HILLMAN, Howard CLEAVER, Frank DWYER, Willam LIMING, Perry YAUGER and Bert LAWRENCE.

Joseph Elmer COMBS Obituary, Middletown Journal, August, 1948

J. Elmer Combs, 84, retired carpenter, died in his home, 405 Baltimore St., at 6:40 p.m., Tuesday.
Mr. Combs had been in failing health for some time but was not bedfast until five weeks ago. Born in Washington Court House, Ohio, he was a resident of this city for 45 years, working at the carpetner trade until his retirement two years ago.
He is survived by his wife, Rosetta; three sons, Carl, mail carrier, Clyde and Leslie, all of Middletown; nine grandchildren and 13 great - grandchildren.
The Rev. E. R. TURNER will conduct services at 2 p.m. Friday in the United Brethren Church where Mr. Combs was a member since coming to Middletown. Burial will be in Middletown Cemetery. Friends may call at the McCoy - Leffler Funeral Home from 2 to 5 and from 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday.

Rose Etta COMBS Obituary, Middletown Journal, January 22, 1950

Mrs. Rose Etta Combs, 84 of 411 Young Street, first presdient of the Middletown Chapter of War Mothers, died at 2:45 p.m. yesterday at Middletown Hospital.
The Middletown Chapter of War Mothers was the first one in Ohio. She was an active member of the WCTU and of the First Evangelical United Brethren Church.
Survivors include three sons, Carl of Oakdale, Calif., Clyde and Leslie both of Middletown; five sisters, Mrs. Willa HOPPER of Washignton Court House, Mrs. Mary DUVALL, Mrs. R.C. STEWART, Mrs. Eunice PNEIVIT, and Mrs. Bessie JOHNSON, all of Middletown and a brother, Charles SHIRER of Middletown.
Services will be conoduted at the First Evangelical United Brethren Church Wednesday at 2 p.m., where the body will be taken at 12:30 p.m. The officiant will be Dr. E. R. TURNER with burial in Middletown Cemetery.
Friends may call at the McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home Monday from 7-10 p.m.and Tuesday from 2-5 and 7-10 p.m.

Josephine BRAUN Obituary, Republican-News, Hamilton, Ohio, Monday, October 3, 1898

The funeral of the late Mrs. Josephine BRAUN took place this afternoon at 2:30 from St. Peterís Church. Rev. Henry PROEPPERMAN officiating. The ceremonies were solemn and impressive and the obsequies were largely attended. The ball bearers were George BOEHMLER, William MASON, Edward HOLBROCK, Owen TROUNSELL, James P. SMYERS and A. ROTHWELL. The remains were interred in Greenwood Cemetery.

Margaret GLOCK Obituary, Republican-News, Hamilton, Ohio, Monday, October 3, 1898

Margaret, the infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glock died Saturday night of dyptheria aged 1 year and 6 months. The funeral took place at the home of its parents on Park Street, Sunday afternoon at 4 oíclock.

Sophia, the two weeks old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph LOTOSINSKI of 19 Hanover Street, died Sunday night. The funeral was held at St. Josephís Church this afternoon at 2 oíclock.

Ferol BRIST, the infant son of John N. and Katie BRIST died at the home of the parents at 10:30 Saturday night of euirasmus and aged four months. The remains were taken to Wesleyan Cemetery near Cumminsville today for interment.

Mrs. Carrie EMMERT Obituary, Republican-News, Hamilton, Ohio, Monday, October 24, 1898

Mrs. Carrie EMMERT, beloved wife of Frederick EMMERT died at her home at 228 Walnut Street at 3 oíclock this morning of exhaustion superinduced by typhoid fever and aged 33 years. She was born in Brookville, Ind., was a most excellent woman and was the first of the family of eight children to die. Besides a husband, four young children survive to mourn her death. The funeral will take place from the house, Wednesday afternoon at 2 oíclock, Rev. J.W. PETERS, officiating. Place of interment, Greenwood Cemetery.

Josephine, the six year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Max CLOCK, of Park Street, First ward, died Sunday morning of membraneous croup. The funeral was held at the house at 10 oíclock this morning, burial being in St. Stephenís Cemetery.

Mrs. Henrietta WOLF Obituary, Hamilton Evening Journal, Wednesday, July 30, 1913

A highly respected German woman, loving and devoted mother, and grandmother. Henrietta C. WOLF, widow of Carl WOLF, passed away at her home, 514 South Front Street at 11:50 oíclock Tuesday night as a result of cancer of the stomach. Mrs. WOLF had been a patient sufferer for six months and about six weeks ago was obliged to take to her bed, where with her children at her side she was called by the angel of death. Her husband preceded her in death on July 19, two years ago, and those who survive her, are two daughters, Mrs. John W. BERCAW and Miss Alma A. WOLF; also three grandchildren and one brother who lives in Chicago, who have the sympathy of the community in the loss of one whose place cannot be filled. Mrs. WOLF was a native of Germany and came to America about 50 years ago and at the time of her death was 69 years, 1 month, and 3 days old. Mrs. WOLF was a Christian woman and charitable in her associations with everyone in whom she came in contact.

Claude KRUCKER Obituary, Hamilton Evening Journal, Wednesday, July 30, 1913

Claude, the year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford KRUCKER of 107 Gordon Avenue, was this morning taken from the devoted parents by death. Claude had been suffering the general infant troubles. The funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 1:30 oíclock at the home, the Rev. R. B. FOSTER officiating. Burial will be in the West Carrollton Cemetery.

Edward Joseph LAUER, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas LAUER, of North E near Cereal Avenue at 2:20 oíclock Wednesday morning died of cholera infantum at the age of 9 months and 23 days. The funeral will take place at the house of mourning at 8:30 oíclock Friday morning and 9 oíclock at St. Peterís Church. Interment, St. Stephenís Cemetery.

Clarence JOHNSON Obituary, Hamilton Evening Journal, Wednesday, July 30, 1913

Clarence, the baby son of Mr. and Mrs. George JOHNSON, of 19 North E Street, died at the home this morning at the age of 1 year, 3 months, and 16 days. The little boy had been suffering when the added heat of yesterday and today resulted in his being snatched away.

Dorothy B. DUGGINS Obituary, Hamilton Journal News, July 3, 1967

Pallbearers for Mrs. Dorothy B. DUGGINS, 49, of 188 Carmen Ave., who died Saturday, were six of her nephews, Larry DUGGINS, Merle DUGGINS, Donald WOLPERT, Jerry BAUER, Terry O'HARA and Jimmy OíHARA. Two other nephews, Robbie WOLKE and Fredie WOLKE were acolytes at the mass. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. at the Colligan Funeral Home, 427 S. Third St., followed by a Requiem High Mass in St. Joseph Church at 9 a.m. Burial was in St. Stephen Cemetery.

Mrs. Mary BRANDT REINER, 82, wife of the late Thomas REINER, died at 2 a.m. Friday at her residence, Hamilton-Cleves Road, Venice. She was born in New Trenton, Indiana, on August 10, 1870. She was a member of the Venice Presbyterian Church. She leaves one daughter, Mrs. E. A. SMITH, Evanston, Cincinnati; two sons, Harold REINER, Madisonville, and Charles E. REINER, Venice; one sister, Mrs. John REINER, Middletown; and one brother, James BRANDT, Lovington, Illinois. Her husband preceded her in death two years ago. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday from the Paul R. Young Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Saturday.

Emil KANABEL, 66, died of complications at his home, R. R. 1, Middletown, Thursday at 11 a.m. He had been ill for six weeks. Born in Mt. Healthy, August 5, 1886, a son of Michael and Christine MARTIN KANABEL, Mr. KANABEL had been employed at the Armco Steel Corp., Middletown, for the last 33 years. Besides his widow, Ida, he leaves three daughters: Mrs. Maxine BAIRD, R. R. 1, Middletown; Mrs. Naomi BEAR, R. R. 1, Hamilton; Mrs. Margaret PRESSLEY, R. R. 1 Middletown; three sons, Stanley KANABEL, R. R. 1, Lebanon; Alvin KANABEL, R. R. 2, Middletown; John HAUGHT, R. R. 1, Franklin; one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth SALSMAN, R. R. 1, Hamilton; two brothers, James KANABEL, Sweetvine, O.; Henry KANABEL, Ft. Thomas, Ky.; and ten grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted from the KANABEL residence Monday at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Robert RECTOR, pastor of the First Methodist Church of Bethany, officiating. Burial will be in Woodside Cemetery, Middletown. Friends may call at the residence after 4 p.m. Saturday. Arrangements are with the McCoy Leffler Funeral Home, Middletown.
