The main gate to Roane Co's Oak Grove Cemetery is the termination of the climb up Strang Street in Rockwood. Plaques on pillars at the entryway say that Oak Grove opened in 1898. The cemetery is easy to locate. Turn east onto Strang from its intersection with Hwy 27, the main local connector road between Harriman and Rockwood, and go straight ahead a few blocks. It's a large cemetery and very well tended. A smattering of tidy area residents' homes butt right up against the outer perimeter of the cemetery in places. There are fairly wide paved roads intersecting the main sections of the cemetery, making the gravesites easily accessible. There are many large shade trees. Below is my transcription of some of the markers in the cemetery as of March 21, 2004. I have not attempted to identify precise section locations within the cemetery in most cases, nor did I transcribe any markers on the left side of the main entry road. I have done my best to keep known family groupings together. I am related to only a few of the individuals below. Some names are here in hopes the information will furnish leads to me or to generous researchers who've shared data with me in the past - or to anyone else with a nonprofit interest. Each line on the grave marker has been transcribed as a separate line in this text file. Anything appearing in square, parenthetical brackets [like this] *does not* appear on the grave marker itself but is editorial comment - sometimes outlining relationships I am certain of ; sometimes describing the look of the marker; and sometimes serving as a navigational aid between family "plots." I have put known SURNAMES in all CAPS. Dotted lines............ separate groupings. Most of the markers are rectangular and lie flat on the ground. I've tried to note major exceptions. =============== THE MARKERS: =============== ............... [Double marker, standing:] KEYLON [left-hand side:] J.B.
