Erastus
McMains was born in
Oskaloosa , Iowa
, in 1870. In 1889 he worked as a
bookeeper in Seattle,
Washington , but returned to Oskaloosa
before 1896, when his first child was born. Sometime prior to this he
met and married Mable Farrar, from Vermont.
Erastus, his wife and young son, James settled on land in
Burnett County ,
Wisconsin , in 1897, listing his occupation as farmer. That
year, their
son
Carl Eugene was born, his birth location being registered at a
later date, as Spooner,
Washburn County (20 miles from their land in Burnett County). Their
third child,
Dewey Dwight , was also born in Washburn County, in 1900. In 1903 a
land patent was issued for their land in
Scott Township, Burnett County .

Their two youngest daughters,
Lucille and Elizabeth were born in Wisconsin, probably Spooner.
Sometime before 1915, the family left Wisconsin and settled in
Minneapolis,
Hennepin County ,
Minnesota . As Erastus and Mable's children grew up and married,
they spread out to adjoining areas of Minnesota and probably areas
outside of Minnesota as well. Erastus died in Hennepin County, in 1936.
His wife, Mable, died there in 1937. The oldest son, James, died in
1948. Carl died 1975, in Minnesota, and is buried in Minneapolis. Dewey
died 1995, in
Crow Wing County , Minnesota. I don't have death information for
Lucille or Elizabeth.
