The Hoeltge Family of Cincinnati

Contents
Introduction
This website is dedicated to our father, his father, their wives, children, and all of the people of our Cincinnati family. People in the 19th century stayed in one neighborhood, usually within walking distance of one another. Today we are scattered over many states and locations. We invite correspondence and sharing.

The records on this site are more than names. Vibrant, loving people worked and played and strove to build a future for their children. When Wilhelm and Dorothea Höltge left the Duchy of Braunschweig in 1853 to settle in Cincinnati, they had no idea that two of their sons would fight in an American Civil War, or that, six generations later, they would even be remembered. The values they imparted to their children would be their legacy, and they hoped that those values would continue to be cherished in the years to come. Wilhelm and Dorothea were Evangelical Lutherans who raised their children to love the Lord. We honor them for their courage, and we take joy in the endurance of their love.

Another German immigrant who adopted Cincinnati as his home, Anthony Planitz, lived and worked near Wilhelm Hoeltge, although they probably never knew one another. Anthony Planitz was an engineer who served in the Union Navy during the Civil War. He too became the patriarch of a large family. In 1938 the two families were joined when Mary Planitz married Elmer Hoeltge.

This website describes the immediate HOELTGE and PLANITZ families. I have information on hundreds more individuals in these families and welcome correspondence. [Also researching BRINKMAN, DRINKUTH, HUWEL, KRIEG, LEESMAN, SPOREL.]

Listen, my son, to your father's instruction and do not forsake your mother's teaching. They will be a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck. — Proverbs 1:8,9
