Annual Conference 2009

Dublin

Provisional Dates

Friday 15th May to Sunday 17th May

Annual Conference 2005

It is my view that the time has come to put new structures in place for the Association and I am putting forward the following as proposals to be incorporated into the Constitution of the Association.

What I propose would involve the following:

* Institutional membership

* New executive position of Vice President

* Immediate past President to be ex officio member of Executive

* An Executive to consist of: President; Vice-President; Secretary; Treasurer; and immediate Past-President.

* A Council to consist of the Executive; elected members; and IALT Representative from institutional membership.

* That consideration is given to the Annual General Meeting being held in Dublin at the Mid-Year Conference rather than at the same time as Annual Conference.

The Executive should endeavour to meet monthly during the Academic Year, and the Council would meet three or four times a year.

With such a structure the Association should be able to draw on greater participation from the membership.

The Annual Conference should continue to be the primary responsibility of the President, such Annual Conference being held consecutively in the North, South, East, and West. As for example being held in Belfast, Cork, Dublin, and Galway.

The Vice President would be the most likely person to become President, this would mean that the person taking on the position of Vice President would be doing so in anticipation of organising annual conference with the cooperation of his institution in two years hence.

With this type of arrangement, it would be possible to state with reasonable certainty at any particular Annual Conference where conference will be held for the two following years and this would strengthen the continuity of the Association. The availability of the immediate past president would be assistance to the President and Vice President in organising their conferences.

The views of the membership and others are particularly welcome on this.
