Excerpts from Jamaican Registers

Jamaican Family

Buried among all the names in the Jamaican Registers, one can find those of seamen who sailed into Jamaican ports, and soldiers who were in the regiments that were stationed on the island. Since many of these individuals were literally buried on the island, today's genealogist looking for relatives of British or North American nationality would seldom think of looking in the records of a Caribbean island. These lists are to help you in your search, or at the very least to give you some food for thought.

At the companion site “http://jamaicanfamilysearch.com” there are more extensive lists of people in the military. The Jamaica Almanac listed military officers, and some of these lists appear there. There are other names of seamen and soldiers from the Registers and from Monumental Inscriptions and burial records. Lists of regiments serving in Jamaica are also included at the site. Please visit the site, use the search function, and see a complete list of contents.
