NOTE:* Walter E. Meek was the youngest sheriff ever elected to office in the history of Johnson
County. He was well liked by almost everyone. While out doing his duties in 1966, he was
killed by a man he was trying to serve a warrant on. A story of this shooting is available
online at Bob Marsh's "JOHNSON COUNTY HISTORY" website (tragedies), and is very
interesting reading.

died 4-20-1986, buried Sunset Lawns Cem., Eldarado, Butler Co.KS.
