CLUBHOUSE
CEMETERY
From 321 South out of Paintsville, a few miles to 1107, you will enter Powell
Addition into Van Lear, at house number 554 (on the south side of road)
you will find a lane behind the house that crosses a creek and goes up to the
cemetery on top of the mountain.

To the right in this picture is the road to this cemetery. Behind where this picture
was taken is the area where the "Van Lear Clubhouse" was at one time.

Just Feet from the surrounding burials on Clubhouse Hill are what remains of what must have
been a "Grand Clubhouse Building" in it's time. These three shots show where it once stood
and the Basement to this building along with the Block Stone Furnace is still there
today in the basement.

The Clubhouse burned and we were told that the only thing they saved was a baby
grand piano. The only house on the hill was the Managers House (Manager for the
Consolidated Coal Company) and when the Clubhouse burned they (Consolidation Coal)
decided to move everything off the hill, they told the Managers wife not to pack,
that they can move it without hurting anything, well as we know it ended up in
Millers Creek. The only other thing at that time on the hill was tennis courts.
This is a combined listing of 2001 and one that was done around 1989 that actually had
more burial information than what is now available to document.
