Troy and Mary Witten Stambaugh Cemetery
The Troy and Mary E. Witten Stambaugh Cemetery is located on the crest of the hill and contains
the remains of Troy and Mary Stambaugh, their daughter Martha Ann and her husband George
Burchett; John Morgan Stambaugh, infant son of Minnie Alice (Stambaugh) and Herman Burchett;
James Estill Stambaugh, infant son of James C. and Alice VanHoose Stambaugh. Alice
VanHoose Stambaugh is also interred there.
The upper part of the farm to the crest of the hill is uncleared and contains heavy
undergrowth.
Since 1982, Troy and Mary Witten Stambaugh heirs have maintained and improved the property, and
so designated it as the Troy and Mary Witten Stambaugh Memorial, a place of heritage for
present and future generations of this family.
The property contains approximately 7 acres, more or less, and has remained in the Stambaugh
family since having a Land Grant issued by the Governor James Clark to Jonathan Stambaugh on
May 25, 1836.
Troy and Mary Witten Memorial is located on Rothwell Branch of Tom’s Creek at Stambaugh,
Kentucky on the farm of Troy and Mary Witten Stambaugh who died intestate.
A large memorial marker was placed on the lower cleared land of the property in 1991 honoring
Troy and Mary E. Witten Stambaugh and their eleven children.
In this area the grave site of John Morgan Stambaugh and his wife Mildred Castle Stambaugh are
located above the road at the corner of T. and M. Stambaugh farm and the Ralph and Ellen
Stambaugh property.
