Services set for former city banker

Funeral services for retired Paintsville banker George E. Branham
are set for 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, at Painisville's first
Christian Church.

Branham, 79, died suddenly December 31 while recovering from a bout
with pneumonia.

A Johnson County farmer and apple-grower, Branham was retired as
managing officer and board director for Family Federal Savings Bank
in Paintsville. He was a former officer for the Johnson County Soil
Conservation District, a member of the Johnson County Farm Bureau,
a member of the Paintsville Kiwanis Club, a member of Mason Lodge
385 F&AM and a member of Pamtsville's First Christian Church,

Branham served as a Lt. Commander for the U.S. Navy during World
War II. earning a Presdential Commendation for Heroism in 1945
after leading an effort to extinguish a fire near his ship's
ammunition magazine.

Branham is survived by his wife, Vivian Williamson Branham, of
Washington Avenue in Paintsville; a son Charles "Eck" Branham, of
Nicholasville; a brother. J. O. Branham, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, three
grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday, December 31, for George Branham,
79.

Mr. Branham was born April 10, 1910 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was
retired from Family Federal Savings Bank where he was a president
and director, a member of the First Christian Church, Kiwanis Club,
a member of Masonic Lodge 385 F & AM and was on the board of
directors of the Johnson County Soil Conservation Service and
Johnson County Farm Bureau.

Surviving are his wife, Vivian Williamson Branham; one son, Charles
E. Branham, of Nicholasville; one brother, J. O. Branham, of Tulsa;
and three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Officiating at services in the First Christian Church was Robert
Benson.

Burial was in Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville, with Jones-
Preston Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
