Wilson Eugene “Gene” Cantrell, 73, of Staffordsville, died Monday, March
17, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, W.Va.

Born Feb. 15, 1941, in Johnson County, he was the son of the late Charlie
Wilson and Flora Blanton Cantrell. He was a retired coal miner.

Survivors include his wife, Rita Carroll Salyer Cantrell; two sons, James
Harold Cantrell of Paintsville and Michael Douglas Cantrell of
Staffordsville; three daughters, Gena Carol VanHoose of Tutor Key, Chrystal
Gayle Jaynes of Thelma and Amanda Marie Baldridge of Staffordsville; three
brothers, Glen Douglas Cantrell of Nippa, Danny Joe Cantrell of Paintsville
and Jerry Lynn Cantrell of Middlesboro; four sisters, Carolyn Sue Borders
of Kingman, Ariz., Anna Lou Salyers of Nippa, Margaret Ellen Copley of
Salyersville and Cathy L. Cook of Battlecreek, Mich.; 10 grandchildren; and
a great-grandchild.

Funeral services were Friday, March 21, at Jones-Preston Funeral Home
Chapel, with Ralph Cordle and Jeff Baldridge officiating.

Burial was in Highland Memorial Park, Staffordsville, under direction of
Jones-Preston Funeral Home, Paintsville.
