DAN SHORT
1907-1964

Dan Short, 57, prominent Van Lear man, died suddenly about 2:30 p.m.
Thursday while enroute to the Paintsville Hospital.

He was a son of the late Welman and Vina Preston Short and was born
Sept. 21, 1907.

He had been a resident of Johnson County all his live and was a
member of Van Lear Lodge 885 F & AM.

He was a retired miner.

Surviving are his wife, Kathryn Daniel Short, and a son, Joe Short,
of Lexington, also two brothers, Warnie Short of Meally and Welman
Short of Van Lear, and one sister, Mrs. Edna Pack of Van Lear.

Funeral services were held at the West Van Lear Church of Christ
Sunday afternoon by Rev. S. C. Honeycutt, Cecil Sherman and J. H.
Short. Masonic Graveside services were held by the Van Lear Lodge
No. 885.

Burial was in the family cemetery at Nippa.

Dan Short, postal employee of Van Lear, Kentucky, died unexpectedly
Thursday, November 19, 1964 at the U.S. Post Office in Van Lear.

Mr. Short was born September 21, 1907 at Meally, Kentucky, the
son of Welman and Vina Preston Short, He had resided at Van Lear
30 years Were hs was active member of the Masonic Lodge, AM & FM No.
5835, District No. 30; and Treasurer of the Van Lear Masonic Lodge.
He managed the Property and leases for Consolidated Coal Company in
this Area.

He is survived by his widow, Kathryn Daniels Short, of Van Lear; one
son, Joe Short, of Lexington, Kentucky and two Grandsons, Dan Curtis
and William Joseph Short of Lexington. In addition to the widow and
son, Mr. Short is survived by two brothers, Warnie Short of Meally,
Ky, and Welman Short of Van Lear and one sister, Edna Short Pack also
of Van Lear.

Interment was in the Short-Daniels Cemetery at Tutor Key, Kentucky
on Sunday, November 22, 1964.
