Richard Lee Smithers, 82, of Salyersville, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, at
Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg.
   
Born April 20, 1932, at Jamestown, Tenn., he was the son of the late Charlie
and Della Brassfield Smithers. He was retired from University of Cincinnati
and of the Christian faith.
  
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Jolene Adkins Smithers; a son,
Danny Lee Smithers; and four brothers, James Smithers, Raymond Smithers,
Ernie Smithers and August Smithers.
   
Survivors include a daughter, Angela Slusher of Salyersville; three sons,
Eddie Dean Smithers of Salyersville, Jeffery Cliff Smithers of Cave Run and
Lonnie Ray Smithers of Cincinnati, Ohio; a sister, Mary Sue Smithers of
Texas; three brothers, Lonnie Smithers of Georgia, David Smithers of Florida
and Charles Smithers of Ohio; 10 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
   
Funeral services were Friday, Feb. 13, at Salyersville Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial was in Highlands Memorial Park Cemetery, Staffordsville, under
direction of Salyersville Funeral Home, Salyersville.
