DAVID ALTON SONGER
1953-1992
David Alton Songer, 38, died Friday, February 7, in Central Baptist
Hospital, Lexington.
Mr. Songer was born February 21, 1953, in Johnson County, the son of
Jess W. and Zona Daniel Songer. He was general manager of WSAC Radio
in Louisa and a member of the First Christian Church.
Surviving are his wife, Robinette Burke Songer; his parents; one son,
Jared Michael “Mickey” Songer of Paintsville; two daughters,
Katherine Renee Songer and Jennifer Diane Songer, both of Greenville,
Mississippi; and one brother, Dr. Jess Daniel Songer of Paintsville.
Funeral services were held Monday, February 10, in the First
Christian Church, with Bob Benson officiating.
Burial was in Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville, with Preston
Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Songer, 38,
passes away
The Paintsville area lost one of its most popular voices when
broadcast veteran Alton Songer died at Central Baptist Hospital in
Lexington after a brief illness. He was 38.
Songer, of Paintsville, was general manager of WSAC radio in Louisa.
Before joining the station in 1991, he had worked at WSIP radio in
Paintsville since 1968.
At the Paintsville station, he was sales manager and host of “The
Swap Shop.”
His parents, Jess W. and Zona Songer, own and operate S&S Shoe Store
in Paintsville.
Songer was a graduate of Paintsville High School and Morehead State
University.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Robinette
Burke Songer; two daughters, Katherine Renee and Jennifer Diane, both
of Greenville, Mississippi; one son, Jared Michael “Mickey” Songer;
and one brother, Dr. Jess D. Songer of Paintsville.
Services were held Monday, February 10, at First Christian Church in
Paintsville, with burial in Highland Memorial
