Thelma resident, J.O. "Jarvie" Sparks, 87, died Wednesday, January 3, at
his residence.

Mr. Sparks was born December 12, 1902 in Johnson County, the son of John
and Missouri Catherine Sparks. He was retired from C & O Railroad. He
joined the United Baptist Church at Barnetts Creek in 1938 and later has
his membership moved to Concord United Baptist Church where he served as
a deacon,

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Elizabeth Johnson
Sparks, five brothers and three sisters.

Surviving are his wife, Nancy Sammons Daniels Sparks; one stepson,
Herbert M. Daniels, of Thelma; one daughter, Dora Mae Roberts, of
Paintsville; one stepdaughter, Elizabeth Pack, of Thelma; two sisters,
Alma Neeley and Maxie Stoghoil, both of Virginia; and three
grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held Friday, January 5, in Concord United Baptist
Church, with Buel Ferguson and Charles Price officiating.

Burial was in Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville, with Jones-
Preston Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
