Well-Known Thealka Man Dies Monday

Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m., today for Jeff Sparks,
69, retired miner and well-known resident of thealka, who died
Monday, January 9, in a local hospital following an illness of four
years.

The son of the late Nelson and Clista Ward Sparks, he was born
January 15, 1891, and had been a lifelong resident of the Thealka
community.

He was a member of the United Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Laura Castle Sparks whom he married
December 6, 1919; two sons, Ray Sparks, Las Vegas, Nev.; Thomas Earl
Sparks, Cincinnati, Ohio; two daughters, Miss Faye Sparks,
Louisville, and Miss Virginia Sparks at home.

Services were conducted by Florida Lyons, Cully Sparks and Merida
Wiley.

Burial was in the Highland Memorial Cemetery at Staffordsville.
