CHLOE MYRTLE BARKER
1898-1963
Mrs. Chloe Myrtle Barker, 65, died at her home at Van Lear at
10:50 p.m., Wednesday, August 21, after a brief illness.
The daughter of the late J.T. and Minnie Easterling Elam, she was
born in Wolfe County April 19, 1898, and had made her home at Van
Lear for the past three years.
She was a member of the Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Leonard Barker; a son, Leonard
Barker Jr., Detroit, Michigan; five daughters, Mrs. Olen Knight,
Whitesburg; Mrs. Minnie Lou Mayo, Louisville; Mrs. Elizabeth
Walker, Detroit, Michigan; Mrs. Magdalene Stratton, Cassopolis,
Michigan; Mrs. Geraldine Sumpter, Premium; two sisters, Mrs.
Bessie Dalton, Hazard; Mrs. Ethel Yancey; Helenwood, Tennessee.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday at the Van
Lear Freewill Baptist Church with Russell Pack, James Lyons, and
Edgar Hewlett as officiating ministers.
Burial was in the Highland Memorial Park Cemetery at
Staffordsville.
