JOHN R.BEVINS SR
1899-1959
 
Sr. John R. Bevins, Sr., 69, resident of this city, died in a local
hospital Monday evening after an illness of four years.
 
The son of the late George F. and Alice Weddington Bevins, he was born
in Pike County, December 29, 1899 and had resided in this city for the
past twenty-seven years.
 
He formerly worked as a driller in the oil fields and operated a shoe
repair shop.
 
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Anna Jordan Bevins two sons, John R.
Bevins, Jr. of this city; Donald R. Bevins, U.S. Army; two daughters,
Mrs. D.A. Justice, Toledo, Ohio; Mrs. C.H. Cole, Kansas City, Mo.
 
Also surviving are four brothers, William and Charles Bevins, both of
Nolan, W.Va.; Sidney Bevins, Detroit, Michigan; Dallas Bevins, Holmes,
Pa.; two sisters, Mrs. Ida Clark, Pikeville; Mrs. Nina McIntruff,
Lemoore, Calif.  Twelve grandchildren also survive.
 
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Thursday from the
Mayo Methodist Church with the pastor, Rev. Charles Perry, officiating.
 
Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park.
