ROSCOE BURTON
1897-1968
Roscoe Burton, 70, a Van Lear resident and retired miner, died Thursday,
April 4 at his home after a lengthy illness.
Born in Martin County in 1897, he was the son of the late James and Margaret
Montgomery Burton.
He had been a resident of Van Lear for the past 35 years. He was a member of
the West Van Lear Church of Christ.
Surviving are his wife, Arena Goble Burton, a son, Harold Burton of Van Lear;
and three grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Wiley Burton of
Canton, OH, and two sisters, Mrs. Millie Runyon and Mrs. Lula Runyon of
Barnabus, WV.
Services were held Sunday, April 7 at the West Van Lear Church of Christ with
Cecil Sherman officiating.
Burial followed in the Webb Cemetery. The Jones-Preston Funeral Home was in
charge of arrangements.
