Elmer Butcher, 88, of Van Lear, died Friday, Nov. 2, at Ashland Community
Hospice Center.
 
Born Feb. 13, 1924, in Johnson County, he was the son of the late Melvin
Butcher and Ida Bowling. He was a coal miner.
 
He was also preceded in death by a son, James Darrell Butcher; a sister,
Mammie Butcher; and five brothers, Allen, Ira, Hubert, Arnold and Granville.
 
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Ann Jones Butcher; four daughters, Connie
Young of Van Lear, Anna Louise Miller of Louisville, Sharon Sue Williams of
Tutor Key and Kathy Elaine Young of Jeffersonville; two brothers, Bernard
Butcher of Indiana and Everett Butcher of Van Lear; two sisters, Maggie Moore
and Virginia Triplett, both of Indiana; four grandchildren; and a great-
grandchildren.
 
Funeral services were Monday, Nov. 5, at Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel,
with Bob Coppings, John Hatton, and Tommy Reynolds officiating.
 
Burial was in Highland Memorial Park, Staffordsville, under direction of
Jones- Preston Funeral Home, Paintsville.
