CLIFTON C. COLE

Clifton C. Cole, 45, of Paintsville, an instructor at East High
Trades School, Huntington, W. Va., died at 6:20 a.m. Sunday,
September 13, 1953, in the Paintsville Clinic of a virus
infection.

He became ill on Friday and was removed to a hospital the
following day where his condition gradually grew worse.

He was the husband of the former Miss Irene Spradlin of this city
whom he married here on June 3, 1941.

Mr. Cole received his A.B. Degree from Concord State Teachers
College, Athens, W. Va., and on August 22, 1952, he received his
Master of Arts Degree from Marshall College. He did graduate work
at West Virginia Institute of Technology, Montgomery, W. Va.,
Eastern State College, Richmond, Ky., and the University of
Kentucky. He was to have started his third year as instructor at
the East Trades School this fall. Mr. Cole also was a former
instructor at Mayo State Vocational School, the University of
Kentucky's Paintsville extension, and at Princeton, W. Va. He was
born August 16, 1908 at Keystone, W. Va., a son of J. W. and
Lucille Calloway Cole.

Mr. Cole was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Surviving besides his widow and his parents are two brothers, Dow
Cole, Princeton, W. Va., Arnold Cole, Logan, W. Va.; five sisters,
Miss Lucille Cole, Logan, W. Va., Mrs. Emil Stenstrom, Silver
Springs, Md., Miss Sue Cole, Washington, D. C., Miss Detta Cole,
Washington, D. C., and Mrs. W. H. Rawley, Washington, D. C.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. today at the First
Baptist Church by the Reverend C. H. Hockensmith.

Honorary pallbearers were: Clarence Preston, Frank Chandler,
Edwin Phelps, Gaylord Pack, Arnold Pack, Russell L. Kirk, Lloyd
Hamilton, Otto Pratt, R. C. Boyd, C. R. Cooper, and Russell Hager.

Active pallbearers were Escom Chandler, Brown McCubbin, Bob
Gunning, C. V. Sturgill, Glen Powell, and R. L. Slone.

Burial was made in the Wells Cemetery under the direction of the
Preston Funeral Home.
