Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 22, 11 a.m. at the Jones-Preston
Funeral Home Chapel for Martin Junior Collins, 73, of Hager Hill, who passed
away Monday, March 21 at his residence.
 
Mr. Collins was born Oct. 6, 1937 in Floyd County, son of the late Theodore
and Thelma Edwards Collins.
 
He was a U.S. Army veteran; a Kentucky Colonel; a member of the Big Sandy
Amateur Radio Club; a member of Tom’s Creek Free Will Baptist Church at Ivel;
and a heavy equipment operator.
 
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Ernest Little; two sisters,
Virginia “Jean” Layne and Garnett Hayden; and one half-sister, Louvisa
Collins. Surviving are his wife, Betty Jo Combs Collins of Hager Hill; two
sons, Timothy “Tim” (Jody) Collins of Paintsville, and James “Jamie” (April)
Collins of Hager Hill; two daughters, Kathy (Ron) Vanover of Frankfort, and
Jeanette (Mark “Feather”) Cantrell of Hager Hill; one half-sister, Cora
Collins Pennington; and eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
 
The service was officiated by Chuck Ferguson, and Tom and Ron Harmon, with
burial in the Highland Memorial Park Cemetery at Staffordsville.
 
Auxier Chapter 18 D.A.V. conducted military services. Arrangements under the
direction of the Jones-Preston Funeral Home of Paintsville.
