William Floyd “Groundhog” Collins, 84, of Van Lear, died Friday, Feb. 3, at
Mountain Manor, Paintsville.
 
Born June 9, 1927, in Johnson County, he was the son of the late Taylor and
Lula Collins. He was a retired United Mine Worker; and a member of the Van
Lear Enterprise Baptist Church.
 
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Billie Ramey Collins; a son, Floyd
Allen Collins; a brother, James Otto Collins; two sisters, Helen Hill and
Edith Fields; and two grandchildren.
 
Survivors include five sons, Kenneth T. Collins of West Van Lear, Danny
Collins and Donnie Collins of Van Lear, Billy Randall Collins of Stanton and
Billy Collins of St. Louis, Mo..; a sister, Imogene Murphy of Van Lear; and
several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
  
Funeral services were Monday, Feb. 6, at Phelps and Son Funeral Home Chapel,
with Roger Hill, Aaron Davis, and Willard Vanhoose officiating.
 
Burial was in Highland Memorial Park, Staffordsville, under direction of
Phelps and Son Funeral Home, Paintsville.
