Joe Garland Penix, 83, of Wittensville, died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2005 at
Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg.
Born Jan. 5, 1922, in Johnson County, he was a son of the late John
C. and Stella Dutton Penix. He was a retired coal miner for 30 years.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Nadean Penix Day; and a
son, Joe Penix.
Survivors include his wife, Swanee Mollette Penix of Wittensville;
three sons, George Penix of Wabash, Ind., Marty Lee Penix of Mt.
Juliet, Tenn., and Stephen Penix of Hager Hill; two daughters,
Christine Watson of Knoxville, Tenn., and Eloise Wright of Louisa; a
brother, Port Penix of Wabash; 15 grandchildren; and four great-
grandchildren.
Funeral services were Saturday, Oct. 8, at Jones-Preston Funeral Home
Chapel, Paintsville, with Elders Glen Penix, Claude Mollette and
Kenny Preece officiating.
Burial was in Highland Memorial Park, Staffordsville, under direction
of Jones- Preston Funeral Home.
